Arrest Ruling on [Sudanese President] Bashir Next Week
Source: BBC News

The International Criminal Court (ICC) has said it will rule on 4 March whether to issue an arrest warrant for Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir.

The judges will decide whether Mr Bashir is to face charges of war crimes, genocide and crimes against humanity committed in Darfur province.

Mr Bashir is the most senior figure pursued by the court in The Hague since it was set up in 2002.

2. Or at least its government, anyway
From what (admittedly little) I read about it so far, it looks like the south seceding is pretty much a certainty. They've also been planning for the north not recognizing it. That ship full of tanks the Somali pirates nabbed last year? Those were destined for South Sudan to make it less likely for the north to resist their secession after a referendum win.

Bashir's threatened to retaliate against Western aid workers in Darfur if the warrant's issued. I was at a talk a couple weeks ago by the founder of the Canadian chapter of War Child who implied she was going to be specifically targetted because of her work there. She's planning to go back to Darfur in March anyway, apparently to gather evidence for the charges.

That's kinda hardcore.

3. The north has made Sudan a hellish place it doesn't help that the southern leaders are corrupt also.

My family is of royal blood (Kuku tribe) from the southern capital city of Juba but the long going civil war destroyed everything. (random info, lol)

Following University if God wills it, I'll go and work there. I haven't seen Juba since leaving it 1992 at the age of 7.

I can still remember the gunshots, the bombs, the screams of people running for cover. As the referendum draws near the north will surely do "something".

I wish the woman a safe trip, Darfur is really scary.

edit: added info
