Bush surprises students with visit to SMU
Source: The Dallas Morning News

<snip>

Bush was a surprise speaker in an introductory course on American government and politics.

Afterward, the former president stood outside the Dedman Life Sciences Building in the north part of campus, speaking with students and shaking hands.

Jessica Pecena, an SMU senior from Grand Prairie, was walking to her car in a garage behind the building when she noticed Dallas police cars and black unmarked SUVs. As she got closer, she saw Bush surrounded by about 30 students.

“It was a pleasant surprise for everyone who just happened to be walking by,” she said. “Everyone seemed really excited to see him there. I’ve always secretly wanted to meet him.”

Pecena said one student asked about his tan. Bush replied that he'd been spending time outdoors at his ranch in Crawford, Texas.

“President Bush was very nice,” Pecena said. “He was taking lots of pictures, since some people had cameras or camera phones.”

3. I've always wanted to see him too...
Behind bars.

But if I were to see him like in this situation, I'd be happy too! I'd love to walk up, shake his hand, and thank him for finally leaving us all alone.

24. SMU's a really snooty private school.A sign reading "Our maid went to UT" was displayed
at a nationally televised UT/SMU game in Dallas during the 80's when SMU had Eric Dickerson,Craig James, and a team that finished as high as #2 in the final rankings. Most of their students's sense of entitlement is as highly toned as grads of Yale,Harvard,or Princeton.

The student body's not representative of real Texans at all. Some probably did go to Andover and those who didn't went to elite Texas private schools. Hell, the public high school,Highland Park High, where SMU is located, spends as much per capita on its students as many elite private schools do.Highland Park's an extremely wealthy lilly white oasis surrounded by the City of Dallas.

No doubt plenty of kids graduate with a sense of social justice but many come out little snobs.I saw this for myself. My niece, who was a really sweet little kid when she entered SMU on a scholarship, graduated a little "let them eat cake" bitch.

It's funny as hell that even on this campus Jr. only drew a crowd of thirty.

23. Previous article in the DMN said how he is trying to get used to not being in the WH bubble
If he was in a bubble it's because he WANTED to be in it.
Look at all the places we have seen Pres Obama and the First Lady photographed at in the DC community just since Jan 20th...not to mention the groups who have been invited to the WH to see them. More places/people than we saw chimp at/with in 8 years.

SMU is still well within the area chimp is having to stay in to avoid the real Dallas/Dallasites....again more photo ops to put out in an attempt to think he is being welcomed back to Dallas with open arms.

16. The DEDMAN Building?
Isn't it amazing how some jokes just seem to write themselves?

Maybe it should have been temporarily re-named the "dedman from the neck up" building.

18. There is a reason Dedman hospital here changed it's name to RHD years ago
Yep..it's here in Dallas, also. The "abbreviation" has always been joked about in the other hospitals I've worked at over the years.

Named after this guy:

.... there's a hospital named after Mr. Dedman here also. Originally, it was the Dedman hospital, but after a time they went acronym and named it RHD.

22. Working on his tan. In January. Sure, chimpass
Edited on Tue Feb-24-09 07:10 PM by rainbow4321
He has been back in TX for a month and 4 days.
While it is warmer than other parts of the country, it ain't exactly California or Florida. I'm thinking suntan index has yet to get up, oh, 2 on the 1-10 scale. Granted my daughter got a very light burn one year when we went to a pre-Nov 2004 election rally in downtown Dallas but she is a very pale skinned, red head who gets a burn if she so much as THINKS about the sun...poor thing doesn't tan. It's red or pale white.

Chimp is far from that category.

I'm thinking the student mistook his alcoholic ruddy colored red face for a "tan".
Funny...he looked rather pasty colored in that pic of him in his SUV this past Friday.

And, once again..orchestrated visit but to SMU this time.

29. Ding, ding, ding...we have a winner.
It was the SMU campus where chimp had his election eve 2004 rally..at midnight. Yes, midnight. He had to sneak in under the cover of darkness to avoid the protestors who would have surrounded the campus.
From what I heard at the time there still were some hardy souls who went down there but needless to say they were kept away from the campus perimeter. And they were, well, in the dark so it's not like any helicopters would have seen them from overhead.
Plus the "rally" was a closed door, ticket only event with him surrounded by SMU officials and local repukes. It looked good on TV but it was a smoke and mirror moment. They billed it as his "Dallas rally" held before he went to the faux ranch where he would spend that Election Day.
Meanwhile, eleswhere in the country, Kerry was holding HUGE outdoor events where anyone could go. Well, I say huge..that word has been since redefined by the Obama rallies that we saw this time around but at the time Kerry's rallies made chimp's look like a few people standing around on a street corner.

33. Bush could be an effective instructor, if given the right classes to teach
Wouldn't Bush be just perfect as an instructor in Election Theft, Extralegal Prisoner Handling Techniques and Fiscal Mismanagement? Especially if he was sentenced to teach them for the next 10 years?

As far as Bush's tan goes...it comes in a bottle, dear, and you get it applied at a nail salon.
