CIA chief sees no place for coercive interrogation techniques
Source: CNN

WASHINGTON (CNN) — CIA Chief Leon Panetta said Wednesday he cannot envision any circumstance in which he would consider asking President Barack Obama for permission to use a coercive interrogation technique on a terrorist detainee.

Last month, Obama issued an executive order that calls for a review of the Bush administration’s controversial interrogation program to see whether any of the harsh techniques used should be retained.

The “enhanced interrogation techniques” included waterboarding, a method that simulates drowning and is considered torture by the new administration.

Although Panetta has said he thinks the techniques outlined in the Army Field Manual are sufficient, he said the president has the authority to order the use of techniques that go beyond those spelled out in the manual.

2. WTF?!? to see if any "should be retained"?????
Either Obama is AGAINST torture or not. PERIOD. And by giving himself all this wiggle room, I do NOT believe he is against it.

This is very, very disturbing.

3. I'm with you!
There should be no wiggle room. Torture is one of those issues where a moral and just society says "Hell No, we won't go there".

4. Just a damn minute Ms Benson (CNN).... When you say..
When you (CNN) say:
"Although Panetta has said he thinks the techniques outlined
in the Army Field Manual are sufficient, he said the president
has the authority to order the use of techniques that go beyond
those spelled out in the manual."

This is inflammatory, all seeming heat but shedding little light.
If carefully correct, it is in the best
traditions of journalism, ringing the call to alarm,
and if not correct it is propaganda and "yellow dog"
sensationalism.

Which is it? We're left wondering :

1) Whether Leon Panetta said anything of the kind, or what it was
he ACTUALLY SAID.
2) If he said this or anything like it, WFT he thought he was trying
to say, and WTF he thought he meant by it?

Additionally, Leon Panetta hasn't been given a job in Justice and is not
an authority on the legal limits of Presidential power. WTF is he doing
saying anything like this? So again, we wonder DID HE REALLY SAY IT?

Who is Panetta, we ask first, who would say this stupid thing?
And if he didn't say it... then who said he did?
So next we ask who is Pam Benson (of CNN) who would say this?
