WASHINGTON (AP) — Defense and congressional officials say news organizations will be allowed to photograph the homecomings of America's war dead under a new Pentagon policy.

The officials say Defense Secretary Robert Gates has decided to allow photos of flag-draped caskets at Dover Air Force Base in Delaware, if the families of casualties agree.

Gates planned to announce his decision later Thursday. The current ban was put in place by President George H.W. Bush.

3. As it always should have been. Dummya's motive was never protecting the families, only himself and
his crappy administration. And heaven knows, he was not protecting the fallen heroes. Or the Constitution.

What a turd he is.

6. every single casket should be broadcast
with a bio of the fallen warriors. We are losing some truly fine men and women. They deserve to be spotlighted.

8. of course ... now that it's a Democrat in the White House ...
now you get to see all the dead come home ... since it's now Obama's war (that he inherited, but hey, facts shouldn't get in the way of a right-wing talking point!)

9. Obama needs to be held to account also.
Perhaps this will be a wake up call for him- body counts and front line coverage were a constant headache for both Nixon and Johnson, and was a BIG factor in driving Johnson from office. This is exactly the sort of pressure Obama must be under if he's to be kept honest about the "war".

10. Only if Families of the Dead agree
which I disagree with since the military itself is beholden to tax payers.

11. I've seen two come into my airport
one was without much fanfare since he was a suicide but the one that died after his 5th tour was huge. He came in on a private jet and the Patriot riders, Army and local fire department were there since he was a volunteer firemen. There were protesters outside the gate but the local police kept them away. I think every passenger waiting to board a plane had their nose pressed up against the glass watching. There were not many dry eyes.
