Senator (Jim DeMint) calls Obama 'world’s best salesman of socialism'

WASHINGTON (CNN) – Another prominent Republican told the Conservative Political Action Conference on Friday that the president’s spending plans are pushing the country to the brink of socialism.

Sen. Jim DeMint of South Carolina, the only member of the senate to earn a perfect rating from the American Conservative Union, called President Obama “the world’s best salesman of socialism” on Friday in describing his prime time speech earlier this week.

DeMint, a fierce opponent of government expansion, told the CPAC crowd that conservatives might have to “take to the streets to stop America’s slide into socialism.”

His remarks comes a day after Mike Huckabee told the conference of conservative activists that “the Union of American Socialist Republics is being born” with the president’s stimulus package.

“Lenin and Stalin would love this stuff,” Huckabee said of the government bailing out financial institutions.

This point they just seem to continue to ignore.

Obama says it best in his speeches. Americans rejected the failed policies of the last Administration. Sometimes it's overkill, and quite frankly should go without saying. But the GOP and it's constituency (most of my co-workers unfortunately) completely fail to recognize this point.

... the GOP doesn't even ascribe to true free market capitalism because if it did, there would be no bailouts or protections or no-bid contracts giving certain conglomerates a better foot-in-the-door than any other.

10. Tens of trillions of dollars in losses rung up by reckless, incompetent capitalists
operating largely without government interference/regulation and making patently unsound loans, then bundling them up for sale as patently fraudulent securities have done far more to push this country to the brink of socialism than the president's spending plans ever could. :P

12. Do you know why they are using the word "socialism" all the time?
"Liberal" doesn't work anymore. It used to be that all they had to do to in win elections, was scream "liberal". Now they are using socialist, even though what the administration is doing isn't anything close to the real definition of the word. They are giving it their own meaning. Socialism is the government controlling almost all the means of production. If Obama was advocating socialism, he would be pushing for the nationalization of industries such as auto, oil and energy.

whined today at CRAP about how the Obama plans might actually work. "It's not fair!" he wailed from his podium., waving revised history in his hands like a flag, tears falling down his irrelephant face.

"United States of Better Quality of Living!!!! It's not fair! People might vote for him! he's got to be stopped" Etc.

The soon to be Ex Senator from SC was very nervous about losing the welfare his state begs from the feds, now controlled by a black man, whom the senator feared could be harboring some justifiable resentments. In an effort to distract the President from reality, Jim DeMint made a lot of accusations and tossed a lot of fear into the air.

Seemed to be few takers.

Only two more days of CRAP; Nation of Whiners.

Read the Constitution. Our charge is right there in the Preamble. "We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, PROMOTE THE GENERAL WELFARE, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America."

PROMOTE THE GENERAL WELFARE. That covers a hell of a lot of ground. And if it was good enough for the Founding Fathers, it's good enough for me. There's nothing in there about "every man for himself, and tough shit if you are down on your luck - I got mine and you can rot".

Per Larry Kudlow, the Admnistration is starting a "Class Warfare". Yes, 90% of the poeple are wrong, 10% are right. Good work Larry. He should be charged with Terroristic threats or something. Inciting violence.

Can't the Administration search Kudlow's (and other mouthpieces) taxes with a fine toothed comb and find 'something' to get him on. Can't tell me these guys (other GOP Senaters, etc.) don't have a Tax blip somewhere. I say, FIND IT.

There are so many aspects to socialism that are good -- just look at nations like Sweden, Norway, France, and Spain, for example, where socialism has done far more good than bad. It's about time we had someone in the White House who can sell the good things about socialism.
