California unemployment rate reaches 10.1%

The 10.1% jobless rate is the highest since June 1983 and not far below the 11% record set in November 1982 at the worst point of a severe recession, according to the governor's office. Job losses escalated in January, with the state's unemployment rate jumping by 1.4 percentage points from a revised 8.7% for December.

You wanna see what the Party of No can do to the Nation if we let em? Just take a look at my state. And, no, this isn't the Governator's doing, it's the legislature and the fact that we have that ridiculous 2/3 requirement to get a budget passed. That little gem was done by Prop years ago. Prop voting has also killed this state. It is nothing but rule by special interests . . . on both sides of the aisle.

Both my kids -recent grads- are out of work. Those few lucky college-grad friends of theirs who do have work are working in grocery stores, retail stores or for family. No career positions to be had. I feel bad for the ones with a lot of college debt.

count my family among them, only in our family it is 2 out of 2 wage earners.

Extended family (includes my siblings families) it is 30% - 3 of 10 unemployed. None of the 3 are currently receiving benefits and therefore are not counted in the rate.

8. time for WPA I heard CA will CUT its funds to

fix our bridges & roads-in Sacramento near W or X Street an overpass is literally being propped up. We need to fix our infrastructure it will produce jobs & that will reduce debt, it was what worked before, it's a proven formula. Our ability to move food, medicine, & other goods around is a measure of the health of our nation, the states need to make this a priority & ignore the idiots who so far have been wrong about most everything: Iraq, tax cuts, outsourcing, etc.

We had more than 100 for a corporate librarian - which is getting into the more obscure corners of the workforce.
We were suprised by how few applications we got for some IT positions supporting CT Summation applications though, we found somebody and are going to be making an offer to another, but we expected much more interest.

I guess even in this economy some people would rather not work than use Summation!
