Brewer order reverses Napolitano’s pro-union move
Source: Arizona Business Journal

Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer on Friday reversed an executive order by former Gov. Janet Napolitano that allowed labor unions to organize state government workers.

Napolitano issued her order in January, shortly before resigning to become U.S. secretary of homeland security in the Barack Obama administration. Her order allowed unions to organize state workers and required state agencies to conduct talks with the unions.

Brewer’s executive order erased that and reaffirmed the state’s right-to-work laws, which do not require any workers to be represented by unions.

Brewer is a Republican who backs the state’s pro-business right-to-work laws. Napolitano, a Democrat, received backing from labor interests during her runs for governor in 2002 and 2006.

NOTE in the interest of full disclosure: This is a notoriously RW, pro-biz source.

We Arizonans knew Brewer would suck, the only question was how much would she suck? Apparently, a big, stinky, perfectly republican coiffed LOT.

1. When does Brewer actually have to be voted in? Hopefully
the people of Arizona will let her know how they feel.

6. Thanks--I was trying to look it up myself. I think a career change is in order for Ms. Brewer,
don't you?

I KNOW she has higher aspirations--and the national rep party has higher aspirations for her. Ugh.

4. Yeah, this was never going to end well.
It's very frustrating, cuz I would have preferred that DHS was dismantled outright. Now we've got DHS *and* Brewer for a gov.

The phantom is not pleased.

5. Was she the Leutenant Gov. and was mandated by law ...
to take over, when Napolitano resigned?

Just trying to figure out how a state with a Democratic
governor gave up her position, and a Repuke takes over.

8. We have no leiutenant governor, so when the governor resigns, dies, etc.,
the Secretary of State (if elected, and not from succession) takes over the job.

9. SEIU email
I work for State of Arizona. Its very true. I got an email from SEIU this morning regarding this. Its sad. First we have to take pay cuts(furlough hours) and all probationary employees were laid off, now this. Thanks Jan Brewer. I am sure State employees can't wait until 2010, I know I can't.
