Fiji deports foreign journalists

Fiji's military government has expelled three foreign journalists as regional criticism mounts over the army recent moves to tighten its grip on power.

The expulsions on Tuesday come as local media outlets cancelled news broadcasts and left pages of newspapers blank in protest against censorship imposed by the government.

Security officials detained Sean Dorney, an Australian reporter, Sia Aston, a New Zealand reporter and Matt Smith, a cameraman, before putting them on flights out of Nadi International Airport.

A local television reporter, identified as Edwin Nand, was also taken into custody, reportedly for transmitting news material overseas.
