WTKK-FM suspends Severin for derogatory comments about Mexicans

Jay Severin, the fiery, right-wing radio talk show host on Boston’s WTKK-FM radio station, was suspended today after calling Mexican immigrants "criminaliens," “primitives,” “leeches,” and “women with mustaches and VD,” among other incendiary comments.

Heidi Raphael, a spokeswoman for the station, said Severin had been suspended indefinitely from his afternoon drive-time show. She declined to say which of his comments – made since an outbreak of swine flu was linked to Mexico in recent days – sparked the suspension.

In one of his broadcasts this week, Severin said: "So now, in addition to venereal disease and the other leading exports of Mexico – women with mustaches and VD – now we have swine flu."

Later, he described Mexicans as “the world's lowest of primitives.” “When we are the magnet for primitives around the world -- and it’s not the primitives’ fault by the way, I’m not blaming them for being primitives -- I’m merely observing they’re primitive,” he said.

James Thompson Severino, III (his real name) is as disgusting a bit of slime as can be found anywhere. Incredibly, I find him even more loathsome than Limbaugh or the Savage Wiener, who at least have some cringe-humor moments. Severino is unadulterated and unmitigated human refuse.

Hopefully he'll stay off of our local airwaves forever.

I remember watching a documentary about genocide throughout the world and comments like this have always been used to justify the violence towards other people. In most if not all cases, some people from the dominant group pictured others as being subhuman. Nazi Germany did it by depicting Jews as pigs, monkeys and rats along with Rwandans being labeled as cockroaches. It helps those filled with hate to treat the others as expendable creatures needing to be exterminated by not recognizing that they are human too. Not saying he wants all Mexicans exterminated, but calling them primatives, to him, makes it easier to disrespect them.

I would like to commend your decision to suspend Jay Severin for his racist comments. Severins and others style of on air radical extremism and divisiveness has crippled this country. It should no longer be tolerated on the public airways on any level. We need to start coming together to fix this broken mess that we as a nation are in. A better decision would be to eliminate the show altogether. Again, thank you for your honorable decision.

25. Severin about the sell. His principles are money, and lots of it.

He loves Romney, loves him - that ought to tell you something. Man will say or do anything if he is getting money for it.

He tries to pretend he is a well groomed, respectful man. He does promos and commercials for fine imported rugs and hand made outdoor sheds, and fine leather chairs and electronics equipment and landscaping. He loves mountain climbing and finer things in life.

He has lied about his background, his eductation, his family. He talks about himself as if he were single and on the prowl but he is married with a family. He speaks about women (particularly asian women) as sex objects. The Globe touseled with him a few years ago, which is why the Globe is enjoying this latest turn of events.

He was on Imus' favorite list, he made regular appearances on Imus' show. Severin was basking in the Imus' glow. Something happened, Severin pissed Imus off somehow, and Imus turned on him. When Imus went to Boston this March 17, as he does every year, Imus kicked Jay off the stage. Usually, all of the people from the Boston station where Imus's show broadcasts appear on the Imus show that day. The Boston Globe showed pictures of Imus talking to Jay to tell him to get off the stage and leave. To me, that was pure entertainment, to see Imus eject Severin. Severin was dejected. Replaced as Imus' boy toy.

Severin didn't say anything on Monday that frankly he has not said for years. He would say anything frankly, if you paid him too. He loves money, period.

And for people who think MA is liberal, there are one heck of alot of people who listen to him and believe his every word.

The closest to honesty I've heard him was in 2003, with the Iraq war going badly with many of our armed forces killed. Severin was angry at Bush but of course hated Kerry. He was at a loss, how could he talk about Bush and the 2004 election. I thought he was having an epiphany, and would be more honest. He is not a stupid guy, so I thought he would turn a new leaf. But no of course.

He is not done, he will be back. Interesting to see what will happen to him, and if he will be the same or not.
