Russian agents held for Yandarbiyev killingThursday 26 February 2004Qatar has charged two Russian agents with the murder of former Chechen president Salim Khan Yandarbiyev, provoking an angry denial from Moscow that they were involved in the murky plot.
"The two suspects arrested during the inquiry into the murder of Salim Khan Yandarbiyev have appeared before the prosecutor, who, after questioning, brought charges of murder against them," said a Qatari spokesman.
The spokesman gave no details about the suspects, but in a vehement protest from acting foreign minister Igor Ivanov, Moscow revealed the men were Russian security agents.
A third Russian agent was also arrested but subsequently freed.

this. Over a thousand people demonstrated in Qatar for his funeral. Of possible consequence to this, the Qatari state, which is effectively under US control and occupation with the large forces used as another staging ground to invade and occupy Iraq, most recently passed harsh "anti-terrorism" laws which call for the death penalty for anybody found guilty of murder by "terrorism".
