Retired Superior Court judge starts prison term
Source: Philly

ERIE - A retired Pennsylvania Superior Court judge has begun serving his 46-month sentence for insurance fraud at a minimum-security federal prison in West Virginia.

Online federal prison records confirm that former Judge Michael Joyce has reported to the facility in Morgantown.

Joyce, 60, was convicted in November of mail fraud and money laundering for allegedly exaggerating neck and back injuries to collect $440,000 in insurance claims stemming from a fender-bender in August 2001.

Federal prosecutors are seeking to forfeit Joyce's home because they say he used the money to pay for it.

What did they put in the judges drinking water over there in Pennsylvania? Isn't this their third or fourth judge this year either being indicted or carted off to jail.

4. Growing up in Pennsylvania, I remember that more than just a few of the worst criminals
from Pennsylvania were captured in Florida (my home now for the last thirty-five years.

That was/is true for other states, too.

It is still true today. Just a week or so ago, a fugitive from another state was killed in a shootout with police. I hear of wanted criminals from other states being captured in Florida on a regular basis--once or twice a month.

It's not that Florida's water has a criminal-making element, it is that the criminal, like the tourist, all wanna go to Miami, so they come here and make our crime rate statistics go up and make Florida look bad.

3. Wow. Nothing like generalizing.
I don't quite know what to say to a ridiculous statement like that.

5. "All", despite having only three letters, is an enormous word.
Use it wisely and judiciously.

6. $440,000 for a neck and back injury fender bender?
Dang, I got $8000 for an accident that left my shoulder permantly messed up. Guess I didn't have the right lawyer.
