$63B Sought As Part Of Federal Budget

WASHINGTON -- The Obama administration wants the United States to spend $63 billion over the next six years to fight global diseases and provide more aid for prenatal and postnatal care, children's health and fighting tropical diseases.

"We cannot fix every problem," Obama said in a written statement Tuesday. "But we have a responsibility to protect the health of our people, while saving lives, reducing suffering, and supporting the health and dignity of people everywhere. America can make a significant difference in meeting these challenges and that is why my administration is committed to act."

Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton said the plan is part of a foreign policy that leaves the United States in a more secure and stable relationship with poor countries by improving this country's image.

"Our investments in programs to combat HIV/AIDS, malaria, TB and other preventable diseases save millions of lives, reduce maternal and child mortality, and reflect our nation's leadership as a positive force for progress around the world," Clinton said.

3. Agreed. We are indeed a part of the world community.

We've given to other countries, in the forms of financial aid (giveaways), jobs, and lots of other things.

Some countries still like to say the US is the fault for alllll the world's problems.

We are doing the Good work - but treating others like how we want to be treated can only go so far.

It should be on a case by case basis after a certain point.

But then, China is worried and whining about America's financial state - yet has no qualms about jobs or manipulating their own currency. Can't have it both ways. Right?

That will probably cost another 10-15% of income over the current pittance.

I knew SS recipients were going to be made to pay for that one time bit of charity when it was announced as a small lump sum instead of adding an extra 3-5% in each month's benefit.

15. Not everyone who is unemployed is eligible for unemployment...

I am asked that question from time to time. I would love to be on unemployment. There are millions of us. None of us included in the "official" unemployment figures.

Self-employed people who no longer have an income for lack of contract work or just lack of income after their business went out of business are not eligible for unemployment. That includes many who worked for temporary agencies and never thought about it until the temporary agency went out of business.

Underemployed people who suddenly find themselves unemployed are not eligible. Because they weren't employed "full-time." On purpose.

There are also a growing number of women who are left with the house, the bills, the children and no job after the man proved what a man he wasn't and just took off. They don't qualify for unemployment either. Eventually some of them will at least get child support. If they ever find him to serve papers on him.

The world is suddenly really not a nice place for a growing number of Americans.

22. Can't get unemployment

I was self-employed, which is the only way I could keep a roof over my head. I have too many medical problems to hold down a regular job, but didn't qualify for disability. The only way I can get help is to lose my house and move to a shit hole of a rental, and then I may qualify for something. And, my house is not that great, it's only about 2 or 3 levels above shit hole, no where near a crime free suburb. Well, soon I may not have a choice, it will be made for me.

I interviewed for a job earlier. I passed by that mural of Obama. The one with the photo of Obama and the word HOPE. I shot the bird at him finally. Although really I think it's a matter of just shooting the bird back at him. Lord knows he's shot it at us.

I supported him. I voted for him. I was called names by former friends who became former friends when they called me names. Not nice names. One in particular. Someone calls me a "N-lover" once and they no longer exist.

I was called names by Republicans and Democrats. The latter really disturbed me. Why I finally wrote off the Clintons. They encouraged it during the primaries.

I believed in him. I don't believe in him at this point.

Hillary Clinton of course didn't say anything about the 500,000 Iraqi children who died as a result of the sanctions her husband kept in place. The deaths of 500,000 Iraqi children that Madeline Albright said were worth it. Such hypocrisy.
