Obama: Encouraging Signs, But Too Many Out Of Work
Source: AP

May 8, 2009

WASHINGTON -- President Barack Obama says there have been "somewhat encouraging" improvements in the country's stricken labor markets but that the rate of joblessness is "still a sobering toll."

The president came out to talk Friday shortly after the government reported that the jobless rate rose to 8.9 percent in April. At the same time, he announced a new plan to permit jobless young people to go back to college without losing their unemployment benefits.

Obama said that "if we want to come out of this recession better than before, we have to make sure we have a workforce that's trained better than before." Nevertheless, the president also said, "The gears of our economic engine do seem to be slowly turning once again."

"we have to make sure we have a workforce that's trained better than before."

Better trained to do what, exactly?

1. That point has been rather vague...
However, they are now at least addressing the issue.

Hey, this holding feet to a fire really does work sometimes... It's a shame the unemployment rate had to hit 8.9%, tho.

2. I know of many that are "well trained" that can't find a job now.
Why bother with further training..only to come out with a shitload of debt and still no work.

3. yess I know many very educated people
out of work

you need to get people working and give them jobs
until you do that
all the bailouts of Trillions means NOTHING except unwanted debt

this has truly been
idiocy at its best
take the Trillions and give people JOBS

4. Encouraging signs my ass.
The unemployment number just keeps going up and up with no end in sight. That isn't even the REAL number either.

Obama is becoming more Bush-like everyday I think sometimes.

5. Earth to Obama, Earth to Obama!
Newsflash:

Has it occurred to you, Mr. President,
that the reason people are still out
of jobs might have something to do with
the pathetic and compromised economic
team you chose, and the fact that you
have given banks and companies billions
which they are promptly using to fund
huge bonuses, parties, vacation, luxury
items,and then cutting personnel and
OUTSOURCING jobs??!!

Hmmm??????????

Has it occurred to you that you are in
league with banks and corporations and NOT
with the people, shown as you have NOT
pressured Congress in any kind of big or
meaningful way to pass desperately needed
legislation that is pro consumer and pro
worker, and strictly regulatory of business
and credit??

Hmm??????????
