Suspects in torture-murder of Brooklyn marine Pawel Pietrzak and wife drank beer after slay: witness

When they were done torturing and killing Brooklyn-raised Marine Sgt. Jan Pawel Pietrzak and his wife, they broke out the beers.

The girlfriend of one of the four Marines charged with the brutal crimes said on a taped police interview played in court Friday that the suds came out after the men came back to her apartment from the Pietrzaks' home, dressed in black and reeking of gunpowder.

"They cracked some beers and were drinking beer," said Melissa Buck.

The accused triggerman, 19-year-old Pvt. Emrys John, was carrying a shotgun, said Buck.

"Good job, E," one of the accused killers said, Buck told an investigator. "You earned your stripes tonight."

2. I certainly hope that the accused do not represent

current Marine Corps recruitment standards. Marines have historically enforced rigidly high standards in regards to personal character and integrity. It's my hope that the perps are removed from society, permanently.

My thoughts are with the victim's families.

3. Apparantly all of the branches have lowered their

standards over the last several years and they were accepting criminals that had felony records. I don't know the records of these bastards but these guys fall into the age group over the last several years that would have been recruited.

I think they should be sentenced to life in prison and solitary confinement. No TV nothing....let them rot in jail...

5. I am on the fence about the death penalty

in this case I wouldn't have a problem but it would be an easy way out for these bastards.

I personally prefer hard labor from sun up to sun down. No compassion and no mercy. These bastards are not remorseful in any way they have proven that with their behavior in court.

8. I'm ambivalent about the death penalty, myself....

inclined to oppose it because mercy is more majestic than vindictiveness, and because of the risk of executing innocents.

But I think that the claim that death is an easy way out and that life imprisonment would be harder, is untenable given that most (of course there are exceptions) death row inmates do all they in an effort save their lives. Also, one can't very well claim that one opposes the death penalty because it's too harsh, while proposing the alternative of life imprisonment because it's harsher. (You don't make that argument, but it's a common one; so I thought I'd mention it.)

6. I saw a show on sat tv about the military taking in gang members.

The gang members come back knowing much better how to use weapons of all sorts. The military ...building better killers ...how nice for the general population.

They screen for tattoos and you're not supposed to have any racist symbols. It is no secret there are gangs in military but I think that comes when you open the doors for people to serve. I don't know what the policy is if you have a gang tattoo however.

Buck, who is dating accused Pvt. Kevin Cox, testified on the second day of a two-day hearing to determine if the Camp Pendleton Marines should stand trial.

As Buck's words echoed through the court, some of the suspects - dressed in civvies - appeared to be smiling.

"They're smiling," Pietrzak's horrified mother, Henryka, said. "They're like celebrities sitting there in their ties. It's hard to see that."

What a beautiful couple. My heart breaks for their families. :(

When I first heard about this story I was extremely shocked. I was stationed in Camp Lejeune, NC. We had our bad element. In fact, there were quite a few sections of base where I would not want to go alone. But this story is beyond the pale. How can 4 people do such a thing to other human beings? Not to mention that one of the victims was a coworker.

I can see one guy snapping (think OJ) and killing the couple, but to get 4 people to participate in such a heinous act, with no one thinking it would be a bad idea? Ijust don't get it. DId they not think they would get caught? I would love to hear what their fellow Marines had to say about these guys. I would even want to hear what their former drill instructors thought of them.

While I am not inclined to support mass executions, I am not against the death penalty, and anyone who can commit such a heinous crime really has no value to this world. Honestly, this whole story pisses me off. These guys could have really made a life for themselves in the military. To me, the Marine Corps is like a brotherhood. Whenever I meet a Marine in my day to day life, I do anything I can to help them out. They threw all that good will away. They also terminated the lives of two people who were just trying to live a happy life.

I say fuck them. I hope they are executed. I hope their story is told to every new Marine who lands in Lejuene, Pendleton, 29 Palms, and
etc.
