Arab Big Brother show suspended
From: BBC News

The Arabic satellite TV channel MBC has announced it has supended its version of the reality TV show, Big Brother. The show, which began on 22 February, has caused public outcry in Bahrain where it is being filmed.

On Friday 1,000 people protested against the show and a group of Bahraini MPs threatened to question the information minister on the issue.

A spokeswoman for the station told BBC News Online the show was unlikely to be put back on air.

1. Could "Big Brother" be defined, please?
I'm not a big TV watcher.

2. several people are shut in a house
for a period of several weeks, with cameras filming everything they do (hence 'Big Brother'), and no contact from the outside world. They are gradually voted off by the viewers. The last one remaining gets a prize.

Some countries have gone mad over this (the UK certainly has - millions of viewers vote, and it dominates the tabloid press when it's on). There's the question of affairs, sex etc. - which is why an Arab version is controversial.

There's another BBC link here, which also links to a video from a news report.

4. So when are they going to get rid of this type of show
on US TV? I'm so sick of lazy TV productions. This type of show is hideous and demeaning to the participants. 150 channels, and most of them filled with garbage.

6. Big Brother is interesting in that you get to see how people

react with each other under different situations.

if you don't like this kind of show, don't watch.
