‘We Are Safer’ - Tom Ridge on Homeland Security Department’s First Year
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security turns 1 year old today. Headed by Tom Ridge, the mammoth department responsible for protecting the United States against terror attacks, consists of 180,000 employees from combined government agencies.

A former two-term Pennsylvania governor, Ridge was sworn in as the first director of the Office of Homeland Security in October 2001, following the tragic events of 9/11.

Peter Jennings spoke with Ridge to get an appraisal of the department's first year. The following is an excerpt of that interview:

1. We are safer only because
bushco has not seen the need to attack America recently to shore up their poll numbers. They have been able to keep the sheeple sufficiently cowed and terrified with threats alone.
