Vice President Dick Cheney said Tuesday he supports President Bush's call for a federal constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriages, though one of his daughters is gay and he has said in the past the issue should be left to the states.

''The president's taken the clear position that he supports a constitutional amendment,'' Cheney said in an interview with MSNBC. ''I support him.''

Cheney said during the 2000 campaign, and again last month, that he prefers to see states handle the issue of gay marriage. His openly lesbian daughter, Mary Cheney, is an aide in the Bush-Cheney re-election campaign, but the vice president declined to discuss her.

Why are they legislating their own morality and forcing their prejudice down our throats through a constitutional amendment? because the White House has done a lot for him and his good buddies at Halliburton. What he may personally think is totally submerged to agenda, how else can he still act like 1990-something Iraq intel is relevant to 2003 foreign policy, and, you know, bother venturing his Sith Lord head out of his Undisclosed Location periodically to burble some "Terra alert" business? Discussing his daughter would be having to somehow publically work his way around a moral justification of, "Yes, my child is gay, but I am a prostitute for the no-bid long green."

I don't know myself. If I had some kids and had to choose between them being rich (you know, when I croak and hit 'em with the inheritance) when I'm dead or be happy when I'm alive...I'd go with happy. So I could, I dunno, be happy for them. Yeah, that's how I'd go. Not that I think those are his choices, necessarily. But it's still how I'd go.
