Supreme Court Hears Online Porn Case (Teddy Olson on his moral crusade)
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=558&ncid=703&e=10&u=/ap/20040303/ap_on_go_su_co/scotus_online_porn

WASHINGTON - Kids, don't try this at home. The Bush administration's top Supreme Court lawyer says he typed the words "free porn" into an Internet search engine on his home computer and got a list of more than 6 million Web sites. That's proof, Solicitor General Theodore Olson told the Supreme Court on Tuesday, of the need for a law protecting children from a tide of online smut.

Internet porn is "persistent and unavoidable," Olson told the court, and government has a strong interest in shielding teenagers and younger children from it.

The problem, as the Supreme Court has observed before, is that a lot of dirty pictures are constitutionally protected free speech that adults have the right to see and buy. Children don't have the same rights, but kids and adults alike can surf the Web.

Porn is "as easily available to children as a television remote," Olson told the justices as he defended a 1998 law that Congress meant as a firewall to shield children. snip

Several justices weren't buying it.

"It seems to me this is very sweeping," Justice Anthony M. Kennedy said at one point.

I bet he checked each and every one of them out. And was appalled, simply APPALLED.
I bet he checked them twice!

4. Why did you hate his wife?
I know she was a Faux News Contributor and died on one of the flights that went into the World Trade Center.

5. professionaly, she was as vile and nasty a woman as there ever was
maybe she wasn't personally, but I certainly see no problem with hating the intolerably nasty public persona that was Barbara Olsen.

7. If a child types "free porn" into a search engine
Edited on Wed Mar-03-04 10:56 PM by Fenris
It might be a little late to protect him from whatever it is you want to keep them from. And you know, there are filters you can buy.

And what was Teddy doing typing "free porn" into a search engine? Research á la Pete Townshend? Or is he a perv?

Wait, wait....I know the answer.

8. Ahem!
In the interest of scientific accuracy, I searched "Free Porn" in Opera's supersearch bar.

AllTheWeb insisted I agree to see the nasty stuff before it would let me know the results. There were 10,257,096 hits.

Google only returned 6,333,000.

Google taskbar froze.

I shall be quite busy for the next week or so.

9. They don't care about porn. This is the same tactic that they are
using against Stern. They want to control content.

10. Oh, that too...
and many believe the first assaults on Playboy years ago were really for it's "liberal" articles and advocacy of a hedonist lifestyle, not the pictures.

But, there are people out there who really, really, hate porn. I mean REALLY hate it.

I've met some of them, and you just can't talk to them.

I think a lot of them are very possibly being used by those who want to stifle dissent.

But they do really, really hate it.

11. Ok...
I tried that to and I found that most sites that were listed required some sort of Age Verification before you could procede...sure there were some sites that showed some rather "interesting" pics...but to see anything "explicit" you had to join the site...
Is there actuall "free porn" sites out there...maybe...but I don't go out of my way to find them...

This is nothing more than right wing fanatics wanting to control things...if they get their iron grip on this to protect children...then what...go after daddy's porn tapes and DVD's...what about the mags in the closet or under the bed...then what...go after pay per view channels when jr figures out the security code on the parental lock device...?

Who knows...sooner or later...if these nutjobs are still in control out internet will be controlled just like it is in China...
