Kerry To Chop Clinton Buddy (Terry McAuliffe)
NY Post
ONE of the first things Sen. John Kerry will do now that he has won de facto control of the party is to oust Democratic National Committee chairman Terry McAuliffe, say top insiders in the Kerry campaign.

McAuliffe — who was hand-picked by Bill Clinton and has remained under the influence of Sen. Hillary Clinton — wasn't helpful to the Kerry cause. In fact, he seemed to be secretly supporting the Clintons' favorite son, Gen. Wesley Clark, until Clark crashed and burned.

"The Kerry people can't stand McAuliffe. They want their own man in charge of the party, someone they can trust," one top Democrat told us yesterday.

...
"Kerry deserves someone who is 100 percent loyal to him, not someone who has been subservient to the Clintons for years," a source reasons.

Will Kerry put someone in who plays safe, or someone who will shake things up and tap into the tsunami that Dean was surfing.

My guess is "surfs up".

He's publicly said that he won't serve another term. The question is this: do we get him ousted before the race or after? I'm hoping before.

20. McAuliffe plans to stay as chairman through 2004, but no longer
02-26) 14:07 PST WASHINGTON (AP) --

Democratic Chairman Terry McAuliffe said Thursday he plans to step down as head of the national party when his term concludes early next year.

McAuliffe said he has always planned to serve only one term and looks forward to spending more time with his family.

"I said from day one I will not do it," McAuliffe said Thursday in a phone interview from Arkansas. "I've done this for four years, I've got five little kids at home."

McAuliffe, 47, a wealthy businessman and veteran fund-raiser, is a close ally of former President Clinton and has been active in national Democratic politics for 25 years.

27. Murdoch crap
This from the same newspaper that published headlines such as "The Axis of Weasels" during the Gulf War -not to mention from the same owner of the FAUX news network

Notice all the anti-Clinton rhetoric in the article. It's a RW talking piece -I'll wait to hear it verified by a credible news source. I wouldn't be surprised if Murdoch is trying to create divisions within the Democratic Party

I'll bet that top Democratic source is Zell Miller or something. I wouldn't put anything past the NY Post

28. You Can Count On A Repuke "news"paper to Spin You A Good Tale
but Terry was leaving on his own regardless of who won the nomination. The repukes now will not have Terry or President Clinton to kick around anymore.. they'll be focusing on Senator Kerry. Everything he does will be pure evil to them. Any deaths of anyone in power in the U.S. will be seen as having been personally orchestrated by Kerry himself... yadda yadda yadda.. we know the drill. We went through it for 8 years.

wacko repukes.

I hope Kerry is able to pull it off. I'm not sure he really has the power to can him. McAuliffe has been a walking disaster for the Democrats.

Read this article on McAuliffe's reaction to the Wellstone Memorial debacle (sorry for the source):

http://www.newsmax.com/showinside.shtml?a=2002/11/3/90717

McAuliffe: Wellstones to Blame for Memorial Debacle, Including Lott Boofest

Democratic National Committee Chairman Terry McAuliffe blamed the grieving family of the late Sen. Paul Wellstone on Sunday for turning last Tuesday night's memorial service for the dead senator into a campaign rally, and even suggested it was their fault that Senate Minority Leader Trent Lott was booed during the ceremony.

Asked about a Zogby poll showing that the majority of Minnesotans say politicizing the memorial service was "inappropriate," McAuliffe told NBC's "Meet the Press," "I agree."

"This memorial service was planned by the Wellstone family," he quickly added, after MTP host Tim Russert flashed video of Bill and Hillary Clinton whooping it up along with the rest of the raucous crowd.

"It was not planned by the state party or anyone involved in politics," insisted the DNC chief.

The guy is criminally incompetent. HE was head of the DNC. One week before the 2002 election in which control of the Senate was up for grabs (and, ultimately, lost by 1 seat), HE should have taken charge of the memorial. HE is responsible. Yet he claimed none of this was his fault.

I could do his job better than he. And that's not saying much.

31. Times change, new faces, new races...
Kerry has won the right to choose...or soon will have done so . Collectively, in democratic fashion, we have given him that right.

He would be a fool to leave an agent of Hillary in his rear as he turns to face the GOP. Her endorsement of him, yesterday, was underwhelming at best. And we all know her aspirations. The leadership of the party needs to be unified with Kerry's candidacy. Anything less risks defeat in the fall.

Kerrys' performance to date, and especially the blowout on Tuesday, means Hillary may never get a shot at being president...and she knows it. The advantages of incumbency are simply too great. Over time, she knows her glamour as a candidate will fade, especially if we win in the fall! The team who takes out Bushco for us will have a monopoly on that rare substance for some time to come.

History will not wait, for Hillary, or anyone else. She can still run in the future...and I might even vote for her-but it is time for all the big egos in the Democrat Party to 'bend the knee'...there must be no internal fracas. If there is, it will be noted and remembered, rest assured of that.

If it is true that Kerry is discontented with Terry McAuliffe, then that gentleman needs to step down. NOW. For 'the good of the party'...a phrase I am sure has passed his own lips, many times. And as far as what that might mean to Hillary...well, like Hillary in this electiion cycle and perhaps into the future, that is simply beside the point.

Right now, John Kerry is walking point.

32. The New York Post isn't a credible source
. . . but I hope this is true.

This election is too critical to allow McAuliffe to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory one more time, as he did in the Congressional elections of 2002 and the California recall last year. Those defeats may not have been all his fault, but a better and more coherent strategy from the top would have been most helpful.
