6. Ousted Zelaya crosses into Honduras, briefly
http://www.alertnet.org/thenews/newsdesk/N24456507.htm

Ousted President Manuel Zelaya took a few symbolic steps inside Honduras on Friday but then backed away from a confrontation with Honduran security forces waiting to arrest him.

In a move described as "reckless" by U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, the ousted leader in his trademark cowboy hat briefly crossed into Honduras in this small town on the border with Nicaragua.

Pausing to give live telephone interviews and surrounded by a pack of journalists, he approached the chain dividing the two central American nations, stepping over and held the chain over his head in triumph for a moment.

He then touched a sign saying "Welcome to Honduras" but, with troops and police standing just yards away, he said he did not want to proceed further out of "respect for the principles" of the military.

12. Ousted Honduran leader returns home — briefly
Source: Yahoo/AP

EL PARAISO, Honduras – Ousted President Manuel Zelaya took a symbolic step into his homeland Friday, vowing to reclaim his post a month after soldiers flew him into exile.
But he stayed less than 30 minutes before returning to Nicaragua, saying the risk of bloodshed was too great. He said he would give talks with the coup-installed government another try.
"I am not afraid but I'm not crazy either," Zelaya told the Venezuela-based television network Telesur. "There could be violence and I don't want to be the cause."

17. It's keeps the spotlight on the coup.
There will be no "normalization" for this coup authority. And any election carried out by it are invalid.

20. Here's a short report

Apparently, President Zelaya, after having entered Honduras this afternoon, was forced back to the Nicaraguan side of the border, after a Honduran Colonel from the armed forces approached him and informed him communication was in process with the high level army command and the coup regime to figure out what to do. The army has a large group of Zelaya supporters and coup regime protesters on lockdown a few miles from the border, preventing their reuniting with their constitutional president. Zelaya's wife and children are amongst those presently retained by the armed forces in El Paraiso, approximate 5 miles from the border with Nicaragua.

IT is unclear what is happening at this point or where things are heading.....

Personally, I think he needs to just continue inside Honduras, despite all risks, and fight to reunite with his family and his people, who have been risking their lives now for almost one month, struggling to defeat the coup regime.

21. I am not sure
Exactly how I feel about the current administration. I will admit much disappointment!

However, I do have to wonder if this situation is not very similar to the “Bay of Pigs” Kennedy inherited. Something proposed, organized & set in motion by a previous administration.

24. Exiled Leader of Honduras Steps Into Country
Source: NYT

LAS MANOS, Honduras — The ousted president of Honduras, Manuel Zelaya, briefly stepped a few feet inside Honduran territory for the first time in a month on Friday afternoon, and he demanded that he be allowed to return to power.

Driving a white Jeep Wrangler north from Nicaragua, Mr. Zelaya arrived at this remote border post, where he was greeted by throngs of supporters and a couple of dozen soldiers and police officers who threatened to arrest him if he tried to enter the country.

Mr. Zelaya approached the commanding officer, who stood on the Honduran side of a chain link fence, shook the officer’s hand and then crossed into Honduras. The crowds cheered, and the officers backed away.

Mr. Zelaya labeled the move a triumphant return. The police, however, said he had not officially entered Honduran territory.

<snip>
Mr. Zelaya’s excursion — which, with its caravan of news reporters, continual interviews and symbolic steps over the line, seemed aimed more at media attention than political restoration — was quickly condemned as “reckless” by Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton

28. She was starting the spin the first day:
"The action taken against Honduran President Mel Zelaya violates the precepts of the Inter-American Democratic Charter, and thus should be condemned by all. We call on all parties in Honduras to respect the constitutional order and the rule of law, to reaffirm their democratic vocation, and to commit themselves to resolve political disputes peacefully and through dialogue. Honduras must embrace the very principles of democracy we reaffirmed at the OAS meeting it hosted less than one month ago."

Dialogue, wonder if we could do that if we kicked someone out of their house and took it over, hmmm,
