9/11 Victims' Kin Angered by Bush Ads
WASHINGTON - Relatives of victims of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks and a firefighters union said Thursday they're angry that President Bush (news - web sites)'s new campaign ads include images of the destroyed World Trade Center and firefighters carrying a flag-draped stretcher through the rubble.

They say the ads are in poor taste and accuse Bush of exploiting the attacks. Bush's campaign defended the commercials as appropriate for an election about public policy and the war on terror, saying they were a tasteful reminder of what the country has been through the last three years. The campaign had said in the past that it would not use the attacks for political gain.

"It makes me sick," Colleen Kelly, who lost her brother Bill Kelly Jr., in the attacks and leads a victims families group called Peaceful Tomorrows, said Thursday. "Would you ever go to someone's grave site and use that as an instrument of politics? That truly is what Ground Zero represents to me."

Hee Hee - maybe they'll be forced to pull them.

1. I hope they don't pull them.
I hope they keep running them - and Bush apologists keep running out to defend them. Waste a lot of time and money making people mad at Bush. Way to go!

3. Lead story on my local News at Noon...
maybe because it's a NYC station.

So they can't use the aircraft carrier, they can't use 9/11...

Not much left they can run on, is there?

6. Happened Pretty Quickly
That happened pretty quickly since I voted it a 5 about 1/2 hour ago and is was about 3.24. Someone has pretty much targeted this thing to say it is not important in the hopes it will slide off the main Yahoo page.

5. To be fair...
....There was one victim's relative (widow, I think) in today's NY Post who said she thinks the ads are appropriate and she totally buys Bush's line about "bringing us through tough times." Her argument FOR the ads was not, however, nearly as moving as the arguments against them.

9. This article has already been replaced on the Yahoo News as top
story by another bush*licking story, so the freepers got the job done. :puke:

but, it looks like the firefighters union may be successful in having the ads pulled, look at this snip from the article:

"In Bal Harbour, Fla., the International Association of Fire Fighters Union approved a resolution asking the Bush campaign to pull the ads, spokesman Jeff Zack said. The resolution also urges Bush to "apologize to the families of firefighters killed on 9/11 for demeaning the memory of their loved ones in an attempt to curry support for his re-election." The union gave Kerry an early endorsement in the presidential race.

they also want bush* to apologize, firefighters are so cool!!

16. Hi Charlie105!
Welcome to DU. I was a Dean supporter (donated money for the first time in my life) but will be sending a check to Kerry next week. My father always said "put your money where your mouth is" - he couldn't stand people who would talk about principles but not ante up anything. I don't make a whole lot, but I feel this is money well spent to unseat this evil administration.

14. In a sense, it's truth in advertising:
Dubya is showing just what a lying, insensitive, manipulative scumbag he is.

I hope this ad hurts his campaign bad. The negative buzz about it had already reached me via an activist list. It needs to reach everywhere.
