Deadly Bomb Attacks in Iraq Since War Began March 20

Some of the deadly bombing attacks in Iraq since the war began March 20. President Bush declared major combat over May 1.
-March 2: Series of coordinated blasts strike Shiite Muslim shrines in the southern city of Karbala and in Baghdad as thousands of pilgrims converge
for a major religious festival. The Iraqi Governing Council said 271 people were killed; U.S. officials put the toll at 181 killed and 573 wounded.
-Feb. 23: A suicide bomber detonates an explosives-packed vehicle outside an Iraqi police station in a Kurdish neighborhood of the northern city of
Kirkuk, killing at least eight other people and wounding at least 35.
-Feb. 18: Two bomb-laden trucks blow up outside a Polish-run base in Hillah, killing at least 10 people, including the two drivers. Some 65 people are
wounded, including Iraqis, Filipinos, Poles, Hungarians and an American.
