L.A. Performer Thrown Off the Air Over Obscenity (Sandra Tsing Loh)

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - A popular Asian-American radio commentator has been thrown off a Los Angeles public radio station for using a four-letter word, becoming the latest casualty in the cultural war over obscenity on the airwaves.

Commentator Sandra Tsing Loh said her use of the f-word in a prerecorded segment was an editing error but what KCRW-FM's general manager Ruth Seymour said on Thursday was that Loh made calculated use of obscenity in a politically charged time.

``It is the equivalent of the Janet Jackson performance piece and there is not a radio or TV programmer today who does not understand the seriousness involved to the station,'' Seymour said, referring to the now infamous breast-baring halftime show for the Feb. 1 Super Bowl.

She rejected Loh's contention that the station had been at fault. ``It her responsibility to deliver a program that is ready for broadcast,'' Seymour said.

Sandra Tsing Loh is incredible! Her show ("The Loh Life") is the only reason I have not completely abandoned KCRW for being the yuppie lifestyle radio it is! She has the most incredible dead-center satire about Los Angeles life of anyone I've heard.

Just more proof to me that Ruth Seymour is full of it.

The # 1 reason I stopped giving money to NPR is because of Seymour and her endless GOP biased programming. She'll do anything to make NPR into Nothing but Propaganda for Republicans!

10. Loh doesn't need Hershman/Seymour

KCRW generally sucks. Hours and hours of crappy heroin/trance music in the evening. KPCC is much better.

Although Loh can get on ones nerves, she is far better than most of the non NPR feed content of that channel.

Don't give one penny to public radio while it's beguiled by conservatives; support Pacifica, programs like Democracy Now, or your community radio station.
