NEW YORK (AP) _ A photograph of three city firefighters has been printed on a credit card and a small part of its proceeds will benefit charity. But some are questioning its intent.
The MBNA MasterCard features the image of firefighters George Johnson, Dan McWilliams and Bill Eisengrein hoisting a flag above the wreckage at the World Trade Center site.
The three firefighters established The Bravest Fund, which raises money by licensing use of the photo. The funds are supposed to go to "firefighters, police officers and emergency workers who have suffered career ending injuries."
But an inquiry by the Daily News shows the fund has not registered with the state attorney general's office, which is a legal requirement.
The fund has raised about $750,000, but has only given out about $72,000, the fund's attorney William Kelly said.
