Bomb Wounds 2 Journalists in Afghanistan
Source: New York Times

KABUL, Afghanistan — With violence building across Afghanistan before elections next week, The Associated Press reported Wednesday that two of its journalists embedded with the United States military in the south had been wounded in a roadside bombing.

In the relatively peaceful north, Taliban insurgents stormed a district headquarters and a police checkpoint just outside an administrative center in Kunduz Province late Tuesday, killing three police officers and wounding three others, security officials said Wednesday. It was the second attack on an administrative center in two days.

The A.P. said a photographer, Emilio Morenatti, and an A.P. Television News videographer, Andi Jatmiko, were traveling with the American military north of the town of Spinbaldak when their vehicle was struck by the bomb on Tuesday. The attack also wounded two American soldiers, The A.P. said. All four were taken to a military hospital in Kandahar, in southern Afghanistan.

Mr. Jatmiko, from Indonesia, suffered leg injuries and two broken ribs. Mr. Morenatti, a Spaniard, was badly wounded in the leg and underwent an operation that resulted in the loss of his foot, The A.P. said. They were later taken to a medical center in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
