BBV: Disabled voters file suit in California
http://www.salon.com/tech/wire/2004/03/08/voting_machines/index.html

Eleven disabled voters accused California's secretary of state and four counties Monday of violating federal and state laws by failing to provide adequate touchscreen services for them.

The federal lawsuit demands that disabled voters have full access to voting services in the November election, saying they needed help casting ballots in the March 2 primary. They also complained that touchscreen machines they used did not produce a paper confirmation of their vote, unlike touchscreen machines used by other voters.

Huh? Which touchscreens are producing a paper ballot?

2. If you've read the BBV book, though...
you know that voting absentee isn't necessarily a safeguard.

ANY of the numbers can be fudged. Pheh.

3. That is very curious.
The disabled demanding a paper ballot. I had given up on that group - thinking that they were just a front for a shadowy vote-stealing, election-corrupting, democracy-killing cabal. Perhaps I've been too hasty to judge?

4. what an insult!
We, the disabled people of America are everywhere and we vote. I vote absentee myself, but for those that can still make it to the polls, more power to them for having the courage to confront this issue which no one cares to face.

5. Insult? What are you talking about?
Haven't you heard of Jim Dickson or the AAPD? (American Association of People with Disabilities) They've been actively fighting any sort of Voter Verified Paper Ballot on the grounds that, among other things, the blind will be harmed because they can't see the ballots! Check out their Voting Page linked above. In the middle of that page you can find illuminating facts like "NEW! 2 NYTimes letters support the accuracy of DRE's". This issue has been covered on this board extensively. They steadfastly refuse to accept the facts surrounding the accuracy or security of these machines. :(

6. I haven't seen the suit but.....
....my belief is that they are suing to prevent the introduction of Voter Verified Paper Ballots on the basis that it discriminates against the blind. Blind people require help seeing a paper ballot therefore NO ONE should be able to see one. Jim Dickson is at it again. :evilfrown:
