Group to Start Running Anti-Bush TV Ads - George Soros
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=694&ncid=703&e=4&u=/ap/20040309/ap_on_el_pr/campaign_ads

WASHINGTON - A Democratic-leaning group financed in part by billionaire George Soros plans to run $4.5 million worth of TV ads in 17 presidential battleground states, beginning Wednesday, that criticize President Bush (news - web sites)'s policies and priorities.

Bush's re-election campaign, which already has begun its own $10 million initial ad blitz, branded the group's activity illegal and said it would seek a Federal Election Commission (news - web sites) investigation.

The Media Fund is the second outside group to go on the air in as many weeks to counter Bush's multimillion-dollar ad campaign and ensure a Democratic presence on the airwaves. The liberal MoveOn.org Voter Fund also is running ads in swing states.

The Media Fund bought at least $1 million worth of airtime on Monday and expects to buy more this week for its initial two-week ad run. The group expects to raise tens of millions of dollars to run ads this election year. The first ads mention Bush by name, a point of contention among GOP lawyers who argue that violates federal law.

2. Just wondering aloud.... >
Could the Dubya campaign, with a quarter billion dollar war chest, dedicate a portion of that to paying stations to NOT air anti-Bush spots? I mean, Soros will pay $X to air his ads, we'll pay $2X?

3. This is great! I hope the pace can be maintained...
...all the way to election day. The Bush machine will continue to crank theirs out non-stop so I hope we have the $$$ and the resources to counter every single one.

6. * non-stop ads...
Hope they're not planning on creating a "black out" of the shows like they've done w/ the media blackout..There's no way I could watch * ad every 5min..Let's just hope the shit hits on the mob before elections and they're safely tucked away behind bars.

10. Guess you'll have to stop watching TV this fall

or be a serious quickdraw on the remote, because with the kind of $$$ that the Repulicans have amassed, the airwaves will be so thick with Bushit that you'll hardly be able to catch your breath. My bet is that they'll try to schedule them on 4 or 5 channels all at once- at the same time, like local "news" does with weather and sports.

8. Not according to the article near the end....
<snip>

Bush-Cheney officials said they won't ask for the ads to be pulled off the air because the FEC doesn't have that authority, and because a court is unlikely to act before the FEC finishes its review of the new campaign finance laws. The object of the complaint is to highlight what Bush campaign officials say are Democratic hypocrisies and to prod the FEC to act more quickly than it has in the past, the officials said.

The FEC is currently considering how the new campaign finance law affects soft-money groups, like the Media Fund, that aren't registered with the commission as political committees, including whether they should face new limits on their fund raising and spending. The agency is expected to decide the question by May.

9. I was wondering...the bushes are such liers...are they lying..
about how much money they have raised, just to make little bush look popular. I'm soooo popular and loved, people just drop at my feet with millions of dollars to insure my coronation.

Since the bushes don't have to show how they get their money, I'm sure they are lying about all those millions they brag about.
