Roadside bomb kills US soldier
Roadside bomb kills US soldier
From correspondents in Baghdad
March 9, 2004

AN American soldier was killed Tuesday morning after a roadside bomb exploded while his convoy was passing by, the US military said.

The soldier was the first member of the 1st Infantry Division, which is replacing the 4th Infantry Division, to die in Iraq, said Maj. Debra Stewart.

The soldier was killed at 9.20am local time (4.20pm AEDT) after the Humvee he was riding in was hit by the bomb in Balad Ruz, just east of Baqouba in the Sunni Triangle. A second soldier was wounded in the explosion and airlifted the 31st Combat Support Hospital in Baghdad and was listed in stable condition.

The names of both soldiers were withheld pending notification of their families.

but I found 3 deaths in the last week from accidents (non-hostile) that I did not see reported until today on Antiwar.com. Bringing the total to 555.

2. and was the Humvee provided with steel re inforcements?
these poor guys have to travel in Humvees without proper doors and an undercarriage that, when a bomb goes off, blows them up easily. Bu$h and company cut corners when they sent the troops into their bloodbath occupation, but Halliburton and Bechtel and Bremer all smoke cigars and travel in the best vehicles with tons of protection.
Our kids over there are travelling in death traps.
And the Bushgan of thugs doesnt give a whit.

4. Note
This is the Australian Press reporting this, not ours. So maybe there were more deaths in the last few days than we know of.

8. A transition is taking place
with division members in Kuwait undergoing training before entering Iraq.

We must hope for a smooth swap-out among the 250,000 strong.

5. Sad, sad, sad.
I still don't believe we're getting all the honest numbers of dead or maimed soldiers. It's all being swept under the rug. Let's hope John Kerry can end this madness when he becomes our next President!

Wish you the very best, and hope he'll return quickly and without any harm coming to him.

It would be great to put it all behind, NO DOUBT! We'll be hoping for you.

10. "Women and children"
"Doing that kind of operation over there, you don't really know who the enemy is. They use cowardly tactics, women and children."

Interesting choice of words. What is the word for using bombs and cruise missiles on women and children?

And "bring it on", the resistance did.
