Sources: Bin Laden may be eyeing
move

From Jamie McIntyre
CNN Washington Bureau
Tuesday, March 9, 2004 Posted: 1558 GMT (2358 HKT)

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Al Qaeda
leader Osama bin Laden might be
preparing to move from Pakistan to
Afghanistan, according to sources with
access to the latest U.S. intelligence.

U.S. intelligence found signs of a
network of al Qaeda couriers and
safe houses on the Afghan side of the
border, sources said. Such a
network could be a sign bin Laden
might be planning to flee Pakistan.

Pentagon officials said they think bin
Laden is hiding along the
mountainous Pakistan-Afghan
border, but they said they do not
know bin Laden's exact location.

1. Again? he just did this last week, after Tenet went to Pakistan

where he was cornered in a hole, the saddam hunters just waiting for the word to go cuff 'em.

2. LOL the corpse is MOVING? OBL has been dead for more than 2 years...
there is no possibility he's alive.

A human can't survive advanced kidney disease in a CAVE.

3. I remember, PRE-2001, reading that
there was a strong possibility that Bin Laden may NOT have kidney disease and it was just a ruse or confusion of intelligence, for what it's worth.

Doesn't mean he's healthy, but even if he has a bad kidney, the guy is rich and can certainly afford portable dialysis equipment and generators.

Oh, yes. Portable dialysis equipment to drag from cave to cave in the mountains of afgan. I'd put my money on the corpse.

investigated and when found lying imprisoned.

Does anyone, with a brain, actually believe this? Or question how this information was gathered? Do the American people actually think Osama is having a party in Pakistan and guys are sitting around a fire discussing where they're going to move to and we have an undercover agent listening in on it?

21. Did they say "boxed in"? They meant to say "boxin'" as in......
.....boxin' up his stuff!

They know he's moving because they've intercepted coded satellite telephone messages to the Better Business Bureau seeking references on moving companies. It seems the last time he moved Allies Van Lines busted up a bunch of his stuff during the move and they had the nerve to shift the blame to the bunker busters falling on the cave. I hear he's filed suit in small claims court for the damages. :)

10. That would be the stupidest thing he could do...
Right now, he protected in Pakistan by just about everyone, except Musharraf. There's speculation that the US let Musharraf off the hook about the nuke secret sell off, provided he lets the US search for bin Laden within Pakistan's borders (something your average Pakistani would deeply frown upon). But, I haven't heard whether the US incursion request has been granted. Once he crosses into Afghanistan, he'll lose that protection...

Is this story intentional disinfo?

15. I don't think he has any choice, later in the article.......
The officials said they think the fugitive terrorist leader is increasingly facing pressure from Pakistan's close efforts with the United States as well as the cooperation of some tribes that rule the largely ungoverned region along the border.

The Arab television network Al-Jazeera aired video Monday showing some 2,000 men from a tribe in the Wana border region of Pakistan who, under pressure from the Pakistan government, have joined the hunt for al Qaeda members.

"The Wana region is like a ship, and we're all on board," said Noor Mohammed, whom Al-Jazeera identified as a tribal leader.

So it appears he is being squeezed. Tactically, it is not the best option for him. As any hunter knows, they moving prey is the prey you see. Bad options are his only options.

11. Diane Rheem NPR had the WaPo Editor Steve Coll on her
show last week talking about his new book, Ghost Wars, about the CIA and bin Laden and Afghanistan. Coll said that there is no evidence that Osama has kidney disease, was some type of propoganda but it was unclear from Coll who put that story out there.

...To the East Side....

Of COURSE he's in Talibanistan. Too close to Pakistan for our guys to risk crossing the border to get him, and far enough from Islamabad that Musharrif doesn't give a rat's ass....

14. amazing how many "secrets" they are willing to share
Bush Inc. never wanted to tell us exactly how they know it was Laden that master-minded 9/11 for fear of revealing intelligence sources and the same goes with WMD in Iraq

yet, it's perfectly fine to bring to our attention the day to day movements of the world foremost most wanted criminal?

uh, WHAT THE FUCK

:silly:

16. I believe we are using this sort of info to encourage him to move.
People, and animals, are much easier seen if they are on the move as opposed to hunkered down in a cellar or cave. It is called flushing the prey.

and he knows we're trying to flush him out, to smart for that. I think this is "news" to placate Americans feeling that nothing is being done about catching Laden

19. So if we soon do catch him, will that just be "news" to placate also?
We don't have forces over there just for the fun of it. We didn't recently send special forces in just to give them something to do. He is being tracked in some of the most inhospitably terrain on earth, but he is being tracked by some of the best trained and equipped soldier on earth also. He will be caught because he was "to" stupid to not know better than attack the U.S. AND take credit for it.

25. "inhospitably terrain," WTF is that? By the logic you eschew in
your message, you'd think that we would have captured him before the election... Maybe sometime in the first two years that we were "hunting" him?

Reich Marshall Hermann Goering at the Nuremberg trial: "The people can always be brought to the bidding of leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country."

24. This is getting tiresome...
U.S. intelligence found signs of a

safe houses on the Afghan side of the

network could be a sign bin Laden
might be planning to flee Pakistan.

Is this the same US intelligence that "didn't connect the dots" regarding 9/11, and the same US intelligence that mislead Bush to invade Iraq? Yet, we're suppose to believe this US intelligence?

Bush needs to learn that if he's going to scapegoat US intelligence for his own failures (or criminal acts), then he shouldn't refer to it to bolster his plans in the media.
