U.S. Marines in Haiti have been involved in a second shooting incident. Marines guarding the main airport in Haiti shot and killed a man they say was speeding toward them late Monday night.

A spokesman for the Marines in Haiti quoted by The Associated Press says U.S. Marines guarding a checkpoint near the Port-au-Prince airport opened fire on a speeding vehicle late Monday evening. One man was killed and another wounded. Reports from the scene say the man killed was a taxi driver.

It was the second time in two days that U.S. Marines had been involved in a fatal shooting.

Marines kill driver in new Haiti unrest

Staff and agencies
Tuesday March 9, 2004

US marines shot and killed a Haitian who was driving at speed towards a military checkpoint, it was reported today, amid signs of renewed unrest in the capital Port-au-Prince.

A spokesman for the US peacekeeping force in Haiti told the Associated Press that the passenger in the vehicle was injured in the incident.

"When you see a vehicle approaching at high speed it is seen as a threat, so the marines opened fire. The driver was killed ... A second man was injured and turned over to the Haitian police," said the spokesman.

He said the driver's body was turned over to the International Committee of the Red Cross, but the body of a man who had apparently suffered gunshot wounds was still lying near the checkpoint area on Port-au-Prince's main Delmas Road this morning.

3. What is all these "unrecorded" shootings, more like ambushes
.
.
.

going on everywhere, . .

It's almost a word for word description of how the US slaughters drivers and passengers in Iraq, and I suspect Afghanistan also . .

Heck I'm old enough, I remember DOZENS of "kills" recorded by aircraft in WW2 on film, alot of them still used today in old war movies as supporting footage

Did the US suddenly forget how to photograph stuff ? Heck, alot of states video tape EVERY altercation between their road cops and offenders

Does the Military have something to hide ? (doh, I know)

And I don't accept this as "justification"

From the posted article:

"When you see a vehicle approaching at high speed it is seen as a threat, so the marines opened fire. The driver was killed ... A second man was injured and turned over to the Haitian police," said the spokesman."

/snip/more from the same article/

Jean-Claude Batiste said Mr Telusma had picked up his brother Sedelin from his work at the international airport at about 2000 local time (0100 GMT) and was driving home at high speed, which is normal in these dangerous times in Haiti. "The road was blocked and he didn't know, just kept going and he was shot," Mr Batiste told the AP, saying he had got the story from the wounded Sedelin Telusma, who was being treated for two gunshot wounds.

/snip/

Even IF actually necessary, vehicles can be disabled, people can be WOUNDED, but I see too many similar if not exact scenarios under the guns of the US Military

Again, part of the trouble is is that Marines are trained KILLERS, not PEACEKEEPERS, . . .

AAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrgh - I find it so discouraging !!

If Bush, or anyone that supports the present Administration's foreign policy gets in power in November, we won't have to wait for the "Peak Oil" effect to drastically reduce the human race's numbers, . . The USA will provoke the rest of the world to destroy alot of itself, - heck that could even be part of their plan, fewer people, more oil for the US

ok

enuf

end of rant . .

grrrrr. !
