'Murphy Brown' Co-Star Pastorelli Dies Aged 49

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Robert Pastorelli, the boxer-turned-actor best known to television audiences as the house painter Eldin on long-running CBS comedy "Murphy Brown," has died, the Los Angeles County Coroner's Office said on Tuesday.

Pastorelli, 49, was found dead in the bathroom of his Hollywood Hills home on Monday afternoon, a coroner's spokesman said. Drug paraphernalia was found on the scene, he added, and an autopsy was to be conducted on Tuesday.

1. Sad
His portrayal was spot-on for at least half the working artists I know.

2. Sad. Sad. Sad.
I just saw him theother night on cable, in "Eraser," which I'm embarassed to say I actually enjoyed (Schwarzenegger action flick).

At any rate, Pastorelli was a terrific character actor.

6. We used to joke about our own carpenter/painter/guy
We've been fixing up the house, and as both of us are all thumbs wrt home repairs, we hired a guy. Nice guy, good work, but tended to show up when he wanted. We called him Eldon (sp?) as a joke.

8. Every Easter ...
... I keep thinking of the scene where he's helping color the eggs. As he's "mulling over the patinas", Murphy gets exasperated, grabs a potful of dye and starts throwing eggs into it ... perfect foils for each other!

Enjoyed his performance in the American version of "Cracker" too, even though I have a special affection for "Fitz" as played by Coltrane ...
