Texas Democrats Struggle to Hold Seats
DALLAS (AP) - Three Democratic members of Congress struggled to hold on to their seats Tuesday after being forced into primary battles in unfamiliar or redrawn districts by a new, Republican congressional map.

The GOP-controlled Texas Legislature redrew the map last year in a pitched battle that led to two out-of-state walkouts by the Democrats. U.S. House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, a Texas Republican, played a major role in the effort.

Come November, the Republicans hope to win at least 22 of Texas' 32 congressional seats, now split evenly between the parties.

During the redistricting, the Republicans targeted two incumbent Democrats, Reps. Lloyd Doggett of Austin and Chris Bell of Houston, by making their districts more Republican. But both men decided to jump to heavily Democratic districts.

2. Sadly
we will lose all those seats. We could take back the house if not for Texas.

3. No thanks to Maxine Waters, Bennie Thomspson, and Jesse Jackson, Jr.
Those three have all come out in support of Al Green's primary challenge to Chris Bell. Also, the CBC PAC chaired by Albert Wynn has donated money to Green. I guess they think that basically going along with DeLay's power grab is fine as long as another African-American is elected to congress. It is disgraceful.

The party should stay united around our Texas incumbents against republicans attempts to oust them. Eddie Bernice Johnson of Texas is righly supporting Bell and Sheila Jackson-Lee is neutral.

4. If Doggett loses my "representative" will be from McAllen
I live in Austin. I'll be dammed if my representative is going to be from way down in McAllen.

5. Doggett is great
He is really one of the best congressman right now. You're lucky to have such a great representative, at least for now. However, your senators suck.

6. What do you think the people in McAllen think?
They'd just as soon not be represented by an Austinite.

We got fucked by Tom DeLay, Rick Perry, Tom Craddick and David Dewhurst.

Their strategy is "divide and conquer".
