WashTimes cutting staff up to 40 percent
Source: Politico

Jonathan Slevin, acting publisher and president of the Washington Times, outlined a new plan for the beleaguered newspaper and spoke of "significant staff reductions" at a meeting this afternoon.

Staff are receiving notices at the meeting, but it's unclear who will be laid off at this time. However, management is putting the number at around 40 percent, according to sources.

... There will be “controlled-market local circulation,” with the local print edition free in certain areas of Washington with a premium price for home-delivery. “No-cost distribution will focus on targeted audiences in branches of the federal government as well as at other key institutions,” the release said, although there will be single-copy sales in newspaper boxes and select retailers.

3. Merry Christmas from the Washington Times!
Spend lots of happy time with your family this season.

I'm sorry for those who will lose their jobs, but isn't this just typical?

6. They're pulling off the mask.
It used to be that the Wash Times pretended to be a real newspaper. Now, by giving the paper away for free to "targeted audiences in branches of the federal government as well as at other key institutions", the Times is showing its true purpose: It exists solely to influence the US government and to get lunatic-right-wing ideas into circulation.

9. Meh...
...all newspapers will be cutting most of the staff if not closing in print form soon anyway.

This is progress...it sucks that many people are losing jobs, but this is what happens when a better medium is introduced.

10. This is not an occasion for joy.

A lot of people were put out on the street when the old Evening Star went under back in 1981, and they got back to working at a newspaper because of the Washington Times. You don't have to buy into the ideology to work there, at least not at the levels at which most of their employees go about their daily business.

I don't read the Times, and I don't have any use for Moon's viewpoints. Now, just in time for the holidays, people find themselves out of work. The people losing their jobs now have to wonder how they're going to put food on the table, pay the mortgage, buy clothes for their children, and heat their homes. Do you feel this is a joyous occasion? I do not.

13. America does not need any more republicon propaganda organs

or any more propaganda enablers who take paychecks from Rev. "Second Coming of Christ" Moon and excuse themselves by saying they are 'just following corporate orders.' It does not wash morally.

If Times empolyees had been doing something honorable, I would share your sorrow. But The Times -- and Fox and others of their ilk -- just manufacture crapola-saturated spin and propaganda...their FAIL is good news for America and Americans.
