Bill Clinton supports Obama's Afghanistan decision

MANCHESTER, N.H. — Former President Bill Clinton on Wednesday said he supports President Barack Obama's plan to sent an additional 30,000 troops to Afghanistan.

"I decided several weeks ago I would support whatever he decided," Clinton said to a standing ovation at the New Hampshire Democratic Party's annual Jefferson-Jackson Dinner in Manchester. The appearance marked the first time Clinton returned to the state since attending several rallies two days before the 2008 general election.

Clinton praised Obama for thoroughly studying options and strategy for Afghanistan, despite criticism he was moving too slowly.

The former president noted that many things have changed since he first became president, but one thing that has remained the same is the Republicans' criticism of Democratic policies. He urged the audience to fight false statements about the current health care proposal before Congress and efforts to fight global warming by talking to friends and neighbors about Obama's policies.

sided with McChrystal and Gates and Holbrooke early on. That is who Biden, Reed and Kerry were up against as they were pushing for a timely withdrawal. If it was up to Clinton we'd only be hearing about McChrystal's plans and there would have been no emphasis on withdrawal.

Hello, didn't Clinton's court-selected successor use false statements to intimidate Congress into buying his plan to the War in Iraq? Clinton decided to side with the chimp rather than object.

You're right, Clinton was "quite hawkish" even though we're taught in high school gov & politics class that Clinton "had the best peacetime budget" or whatever. In 1998, he signed the Iraq Liberation Act. Conservatives complain that Clinton didn't do squat to prevent 9/11, ignoring the oh-so-scary fact that Bush was relaxing in Texas the day he got that memo about Osama bin Laden's threat to strike the US. And Bush used a Clinton-era law as a reason for military action!

And Michael Moore hollered on Twitter: "There is no al-Qaeda in Afghanistan (less then a hundred!)" and reiterated the fact that most of the 9/11 hijackers were Saudis not funded by Afghanistan. Why is Clinton being so selective of what is a "false statement"?
