After an investigation conducted by the Department of Labor workers for SSM Health Care in St. Louis have been paid $1.7 million in back wages. According to the Labor Department the medical corporation failed to provide nursing staff time and one-half for working over a 40 hour work week. Even if employees were forced to skip a meal period or work a shorter meal period the company’s time keeping software automatically deducted time. Seven hospital’s fall under the SSM umbrella. The report discovered inaccuracies impacting 4,007 employees. The Fair Labor Standards Act requires employers to keep accurate time and payroll records.
