BBC news website asks users: 'Should homosexuals face execution?'
Source: The Guardian

The BBC today asked users of its news website "Should homosexuals face execution?" on a talkboard discussion for a World Service programme for African listeners.

Posted on a BBC News premoderated talkboard, the thread was designed to provoke discussion ahead of the latest edition of interactive World Service programme Africa Have Your Say.

"Yes, we accept it is a stark and disturbing question, but this is the reality behind an anti-homosexuality bill being debated on Friday by the Ugandan parliament which would see some homosexual offences punishable by death," the post said.

... Premoderated posts included one from Chris, Guildford, posted at 8.59am, which attracted 51 recommendations of support. He wrote: "Totally agree. Ought to be imposed in the UK too, asap. Bring back some respectable family values. Why do we have to suffer 'gay pride' festivals? Would I be allowed to organise a 'straight pride' festival? No, thought as much!! If homosexuality is natural, as we are forced to believe, how can they sustain the species? I suggest all gays are put on a remote island somewhere and left for a generation - after which, theoretically there should be none left!"

... The BBC Pride board, composed of gay and lesbian staff at the corporation, lobbied the World Service to change the headline and close discussion "to minimise negative reflection on the BBC".

1. "Uganda be kidding me!"

After a generation, more would be put on the island anyway... so, theoretically, the dumbass using that word to say there won't be any homosexuals after a generation... what a dumbass.

If anything, AIDS will wipe everybody out first and trying to get everyone with the illness corralled isn't practicable either... (And it's not transmitted by saliva, thank God...)

4. What a dumb f*ck

We're not sterile, asswipe. Plenty of gay people already have children of their own. Not only do we know how to use turkey basters, IVF and other such means to procreate without sex, but if we needed to we could have heterosexual sex for the purposes of procreation. The fact that we're not romantically and sexually attracted to the opposite gender doesn't mean we're incapable of having (ugh) sex with them. Just look at how many marriages have occurred between self-loathing, closeted queers and "ex-gays" trying desperately to prove how straight they've become through the power of Jebus.

Are anti-gays utter morons in addition to being hateful bigots?

P.S. My wife says, "All the guy has to do is close his eyes". My addition: "Like so many wives of RRRW men do".

14. Logic is a useless
quality for such people. He promotes murder against +/- 3% of the world's population. And he wants to know why straights have to suffer gays? Why do humans have to suffer the brainless? I say we put them on an island and sell tickets to see these "subhuman types".
Thank goodness "Straight Pride"is illegal.:sarcasm:

5. Wouldn't it be easier to put all the gay haters on an Island?
I think there are less of them...and they are such assholes anyways...we would never miss them.

An Island Of That Size Does Not Exist On Earth......

So Maybe The Haters Could Be Sent To Another Planet, In Another Solar System Instead.....

As One Might Be Shocked At The Amount Of Haters That "Really Are" Out There.....

I'm Not Trying To Be Argumentative...... Just Sayin'........

11. Some Questions Should Not Be Dignified With An Answer
Edited on Wed Dec-16-09 11:20 PM by Toasterlad
Some questions do not promote honest debate, but instead lend credence to a preposterous notion.

Would the BBC characterize the response from Chris in Guildford, along with his 51 enthusiastic supporters, as the kind of discussion they'd hoped to "provoke"?

I used to have some respect for the BBC.

13. Thank you BBC Pride board. That is so ignorant and offensive.
Edited on Wed Dec-16-09 11:47 PM by Number23
In addition to being a disgusting question, is this question geared at every BBC service or just the African service? I love how an entire continent full of different cultures, practices and histories are just lumped and thrown together like that.

And the fact that the majority of respondents weren't even African just adds to how poorly thought out this obviously was.
