US Senator: Report on Iraq Intelligence 'Damning'
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A U.S. Senate Intelligence Committee report about prewar intelligence on Iraq (news - web sites) will be "tough and damning" and spread the blame around, a senior Republican senator said on Friday.

"It will be damning of some of the intelligence. I think it's going to be highly critical, it will be critical of a lot of different programs and people," said Sen. Jon Kyl (news, bio, voting record) of Arizona, third-ranking in the Senate Republican leadership.

<snip>

Democrats say the Republican White House exaggerated the threat from Iraq to gather support for the war. Republicans say it is too early to draw conclusions because the hunt for weapons of mass destruction has not ended and the administration's comments were based on assessments by the intelligence agencies.

It has become a hot-button political issue ahead of the presidential election in November.

1. "Spread the blame around" the intelligence community, he means.
Don't expect anyone in the Executive Branch to get hit with this one.

It's all Tenet's fault. Never mind that Cheney was over there personally threatening them on a daily basis.

2. A cute way of saying it will be a white wash
Spread the blame around - to Clinton probably, maybe FDR too. Oh, and it will be Saddam's fault for "not trying harder to make us believe him".

6. Even good intelligence can be misused. It's the "use" of the intelligence
that should be the issue. Whether the intelligence was bad or good, the administration used it as though it was the gospel truth and would frown on any dissent. The media must also share the blame for helping to spread the propaganda of this administration...but then, who owns and controls the media?

8. Yes indeed; but it was never too early to cry and clamor for the UN
to conclude it's search for WMD when * and the poodle wanted to lunch their war. Infact the cry then from every rethuglican and neo-con was that it was taking forever to conclude that Iraq and SH were too dangerous and too rotten to be let alone. What a bunch of hypocrites!!!!!

9. Here's a fresh idea!
Let's re-elect Bush and keep searching until we find some WMD's.

Or lets just save our money and stop looking. It's the "Democrat" insistance that we keep looking for WMD's that's causing this deficit!

12. Of course this is going to be whitewashed--it's a no brainer!!
Did you expect that the republicans would ever let any info out damning to Bush, especially prior to an election. No way. They would stonewall for months if necessary. So this is how I call it: they say to the Dems on the committee "you shut the fuck up and we shut the fuck up---you push and we will blame it all on Clinton---we all get together and blame it on the CIA, FBI, Mickey Mouse and Daffy Duck but we NEVER, NEVER blame it on Bush...understand??..and if you ever open your mouth and leak, your kin will be floating in the river". With the greatest amount of power and money on planet Earth on the line, do you think these bastards would risk it to actually give us a true report???? This was a waste of time and money.

15. A taste of the steaming heap that is coming....
They must really be terrified of having Bush look like a liar. The evidence is unforgiving. Bushco repeatedly, repeatedly, repeatedly went to Congress, the UN and the American people with absolute unsubstantiated bullshit. They kicked key allies in the teeth and tried to destroy the UN in their haste to go to war.

There WILL be WMD's "found" before the election. They can't have people thinking about what a lying murdering and treasonous moron the Resident is. Every shill they have and can find or buy is going to rewrite history at the top of their lungs for the next eight months.

17. It reads like damage control
Of course it's a steaming pile of bullshit. But it reads like damage control after Ted Kennedy's speech:

It has become a hot-button political issue ahead of the presidential election in November.

Kennedy, who has taken a high-profile role in the presidential campaign of fellow Massachusetts Democrat Sen. John Kerry (news - web sites), in last week's speech accused Republican President Bush (news - web sites) of exaggerating the threat posed by Iraq for political gain.

"That charge, if more than just over-the-top bluster, would be close to an allegation of treason -- suggesting that the president deliberately put our young men and women in harm's way for no purpose other than politics," Kyl said.

"Such a charge would not only sap the morale of the troops who are fighting even now, it would undercut our entire position on the war on terror generally and in Iraq specifically," Kyl said.

You bet your ass it's close to an allegation of treason. If the shoe fits, and all. When there is no mention of the Pentagon's Office of Special Plans' role in the rush to war, then this whole thing is a whitewash. Once Kennedy brings up OSP and witnesses like LtCol Kiatowski, the Criminal Regime has some 'splaining to do.

Sen Kyl would look better in a nice orange jumpsuit, don't ya think?

21. My note to Gomer Kyl...
>>"That charge, if more than just over-the-top bluster, would be close to an allegation of treason -- suggesting that the president deliberately put our young men and women in harm's way for no purpose other than politics," Kyl said.<<

Excellent point! Yes, George W, Bush is a traitor. Kudos to you for pointing it out so deftly - it's almost as if you don't realize yourself what you're admitting.

Now, the question to ask yourself: will I continue to support a traitor to this nation, and thus become one myself, or will I do the right thing and break from him?

Sadly, we both know you will choose treason over the Constitution, wrong over right, deceit over honor.

You are not worthy of your title.

23. The Pugs showed us how to handle this matter....
The right wing whores, zombies, talking heads and every foot soldier zeroed in on Clinton's little private prevarication and called it a lie and they did it ten gazillion times.

Now every democrat has to do the same thing. No more nice guys and girls. We say it loud. Bush is a liar. Bush lied. The chorus will sound very familiar to them.

And we stress that it doesn't matter if they find WMD because they lied about what they knew to begin with. They lied. And thousands died. And yes, thank you it was treason. That is exactly right.
