A statement attributed to Al Qaeda and sent to a London-based {Arab-language} newspaper {Al-Quda Al-Arabi} has claimed responsibility for a series of deadly bombings in Madrid.

Ten simultaneous blasts ripped through four packed commuter trains at peak hour, killing 190 people and injuring 1,247 others.

Interesting that so far almost NO US news sources are running this (except Bloomberg). For example, the ABC website linked above is from Australia. Why the wait?

4. Actually the source is supposed to be a letter to a London newspaper
A letter from Al Qa'ida claiming responsibility was reportedly received by an Arab-language paper out of London, Al-Quda Al-Arabi.

5. Spanish officials say they HAVE found some evidence
Edited on Fri Mar-12-04 11:29 PM by scottxyz
"In Madrid, Spanish officials say they have found seven detonators and a tape in the Arabic language in a van which may be linked to the 10 simultaneous blasts."

(from link in original post)

Of course, this could be a plant. But what motive would a group such as ETA have for framing Al Qa'ida?
