Mahmoud Ahmadinejad says US fabricated nuclear documents
Source: Guardian UK

The Iranian president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, today dismissed a year-end deadline set by the US for Iran to accept a UN-brokered deal to swap enriched uranium for nuclear fuel.

As Iran faces a renewed US drive for further sanctions, Ahmadinejad made light of the threat. "If Iran wanted to make a bomb, we would be brave enough to tell you," he told supporters in the southern city of Shiraz. He said the west could give Iran "as many deadlines as they want, we don't care".

In an interview aired on US television yesterday, Ahmadinejad dismissed documents apparently describing Iranian efforts to make a nuclear trigger as "fabricated and distributed by the US".

The president brushed away a report in last week's Times newspaper that cited confidential Iranian technical documents detailing a four-year plan to test a neutron initiator, the part of a nuclear warhead that triggers detonation.

4. At least the US is fabricating its own documents now.
The phony Nigerian documents the US got from Italy were painfully obvious. (Although in the end, it didn't matter.)

9. How did you determine that an elected leader of a country is CRAZY?
Have you personally interacted with him to determine his level of sanity or is it that you have also bought into the narrative some would want to have created about the leader of another country that he is crazy? Which is it? Just asking... The current Italian president has said and done things daily, any observer would call CRAZY but have we applied the CRAZY label to him in relation to his action in defense of his country and policies?

Remember, the daily outrage when Republicans attempt to label the POTUS everything under the sun! Labels are might to frame the argument, not make the issues understandable. Let's stop with the labels and discuss the issues, people.

34. Thank you
Just got back home from a long day at work and realized I had a typo in my post this morning when I typed the word 'might' instead of meant.

27. So, is he crazy or not?
I don't know and I don't know what is the truth on this.
But one thing is sure: he cheated in his election and he is now on a sinking ship.
No way he will stay in power for his new 4 yr term unless he call on the military to protect him from his own people. I know the folks and there NO WAY.

37. I think a person who denies the holocaust occurred, repeatedly, has extreme issues
integrating reality into their head.

Do you believe the holocaust occurred? Do you believe it is a fabrication? If you do, it makes this easier, because you are as crazy as him.

The iranian president is on record countless times saying just that. Do you believe this is a conclusion a sane person can come to, after examining the extensive evidence and documentation on the topic? If so, can you give me an example of how you can justify believing it never happened, in a sane fashion?

8. Whether the documents are genuine or not, he obviously has to say that.
Those who want to believe him, will. Forged documents prove that the West is out to get Iran and Ahmadinejad. And those who don't want to believe him, won't. Genuine documents prove that Iran and Ahmadinejad are doing just what we "knew" he was doing.

We'll never see the documents ourselves or know what we're seeing if we do. We have to rely on the opinions of others (some based on observation and analysis; some based just on an anti-Iran/anti-US mindset). I don't envy policy makers who have to rely on "experts" to determine whether the documents are genuine or fake and should affect policy or just be ignored. You can't (or shouldn't) govern without "facts" but the hard part can be determining what the "facts" are.

12. Sometimes you can figure out the facts by the context of their dissemination.
There was a thread here late last week about this situation and it cited at least one "expert" that had been involved in the yellow cake baloney. Pluse, CIA has never been very good at actual spying. I wish I'd bookmarked it.

But I agree with your point that whether true or false, he'd have to make this statement.

24. Well . . .
Forged documents prove that the West is out to get Iran and Ahmadinejad. And those who don't want to believe him, won't.

But the West is out to get Iran and Ahmadenijad. You don't have to believe him to know that. They're looking for any excuse to attack Iran, and he is used to provide one.

32. Looks like the documents are real, but being spun as something they're not.
See for yourself:
http://isis-online.org/isis-reports/detail/farsi-and-english-versions-of-document-on-neutron-initiator/

It's about a (very) small tech project related to neutron output experiments, which has no common applications outside of basic science, and nuclear weapons... but it's not specifically a document outlining "hey, we're making a trigger for a bomb".

15. I'm inclined to believe Ahmadinejad
The documents are most probably forged - another fraudulent and ultimately futile effort to pressure Iran to give up its rights. Ahmadinejad is doing a good job of resisting the illegitimate demands of the world's bullies.

18. How do you know he fabricated the election?
Just because people who are hostile to Ahmadinejad say he fabricated the election does mean it's true. I don't know if he fabricated the election or not; but I know he is 100% right in defending Iran's inalienable right (on the basis of both Iran's sovereignty and the NPT charter)to develop and use nuclear technology.

19. I agree.
But this whole issue is really about preventing Iran from becoming a deterrent to the U.S. desire to control important energy reserves. Many countries possess nuclear technology, but few are regional powers in an area as vital to U.S. geo strategic plans as the Middle East.

33. Ay, there's the rub
Whether Ahmadinejad has any credibility, and I tend to think he doesn't, the United States has pissed away its credibility in the eyes of the world. And we're not doing much to retrieve it with the continuation of so many disastrous Bush administration policies.

35. Sad but true.
The US's credibility outside the US is in the same order of magnitude
as Iran's credibility outside Iran.

And the Americans who sneer at Iranians for believing their government's
anti-American propaganda cheerfully swallow their own government's
anti-Iranian propaganda.
