WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Bush administration has sent a senior White House official to Baghdad to try and salvage the latest bid to form an interim Iraqi government, the Washington Post reported on Saturday.

The White House official was scheduled to arrive in Iraq this weekend for meetings with the U.S.-appointed Iraqi Governing Council, the Post said, quoting senior U.S. officials.

---snip---

President Bush will mark the one year anniversary of the invasion of Iraq next week with two major speeches aimed at rallying the troops and shoring up public support for the occupation.

The White House said on Friday that Bush will travel to Fort Campbell, Kentucky to address the troops on Thursday, March 18. The next day, he will give an address in the East Room of the White House.

suggestion to make the bush* drinking game more interesting....

in addition to taking a shot of your favorite beverage everytime he says "terror, terrorist, evil, wmd...." - have two chairs ready - and change chairs on every flip-flop you spot

1. This is written like a gossip column tidbit.

My favorite part:
The Post said Paul Bremer, the U.S. administrator in Iraq, had failed to end squabbling among members of the governing council.

A White House spokesman was not immediately available for comment on the report.

2. Two speeches?
I suspect the second one in the east room will have some policy implications while the one at Ft Campbell will be ra-ra, hooyah type in front of a mandatory compliant audience. The second one worries me though....he's up to something because he's desperate.

re:the drinking game.......switching chairs after consuming that much alcohol might get dangerous. May need helmets......

3. The Senior Official will be travelling in a bomb proof vehicle!
UNLIKE THE SOLDIERS WHO ARE IN INADEQUATE HUMVEES AND GET THEIR LEGS BLOWN OFF DAILY OR DIE and no doubt the fucking senior official will eat well and not have to worry about his Body being blown to bits.

4. So who is this mystery man (or woman) they are sending?
Edited on Sat Mar-13-04 10:16 AM by suegeo
Must be a prominent member of our country's "Shadow government." Isn't a democracy suppose to be open, and responsive to the people?

Oh never mind.

Sounds like they might want to spend our secretary of state over there to tackle this one. Do we even have a secretary of state anymore?

John Kerry seems to think they took the airplane keys away from Colin Powell. So maybe little Colin is prancing over there to pout that "yes sir, I am too the secretary of state." Will he bring a plastic turkey with him?

When Paul Wolfowitz went over, didn't we see daily bombings at about 10 am CST? They almost whacked Wolfy, if I recall. The daily killings were almost like the weather channel's "weather on the 8s" expect it was more like "earth shattering blast on the 10s"

These keystone cops keep getting people killed, with no end in sight. I really dislike this junta.
