3. But did they change the story? When I first opened it, it ended with
the last line quoted in the post.

Now they've added some stuff about the past week. Says it was released 5 minutes ago now.

What's up?

16. most of these reports are the almost-daily attacks on occupation HQ
That place is mortared practically daily anymore.. sometimes meant to embarass the occupation officials during a press conference where they tell lies about how swell things are going, or to break up their dinner, etc.. doesn't always get coverage, but references to it turn up in some reports of resistance activities.

5. Why are do they do controlled blasts
in the middle of the biggest city in Iraq? Doesn't Iraq have enough empty desert to do this sort of thing?

Besides if it was a controlled blast, why don't they announce it beforehand so they don't scare the shit out of everybody? Oh that's right, got to keep the natives scared, it makes it easier to control them.

6. actually
controlled blasts, according to a report I heard from Bagdad last week, are done at specific times and are announced with a specific warning signal so people are not scared by them...

9. Read THIS email from my stepson in Baghdad! the news lies to us
Edited on Sat Mar-13-04 09:02 AM by Mari333
there is still a major war going on there and our kids are sitting ducks...
--------------------------------------------------------------------

hey

i am fine, just a little tired. we got mortared this morning, but nobody was hurt. i didn't even realize it until the third one exploded, so we went to the prison and sat tight, but three was all they wanted to fire. only one landed in the prison, the others landed near the city outside the gate. they really need to stop doing that. it was no big deal, we all just scratched our heads thinking 'what the hell was that?' then came the realization after i heard fizzing overhead, then figured out that it wasn't some idiot trying to blow something up outside the gate.

honestly, the mortars were the main thing i was concerned about, and after this morning, they don't really bother me. i am never out in the open, so i have nothing to worry about. i wasn't even bothered by them.

anyways, i am fine, still no mail coming in. they say it takes no time at all to get to your side, but forever to get to me. go figure.

i love you
i am wearing my vest right now, so don't worry

14. Oh, Mari, I can only imagine how you and your husband
must have felt reading this e-mail! This is the stuff of nightmares, over and over. I have been following your stepson's progress, but had not posted to you. Reading this, I just had to tell you that I am out here (along with many others, I'm sure) paying attention and, sometimes, holding my breath as the situation unfolds.

Thank you for your courageous fight against this insane machine. I am only able to write congress and attend the ongoing events in my area. But I have a 19 y.o. son and through your updates am becoming more and more convinced that the draft is a real danger next year.

Holding you all in my thoughts every day.

Blessings,
Ma

17. From a fellow Michigander....
Mari - keep up all you are doing to protest this asinine, unnecessary war. I talk about getting rid of Bush and his cronies every day to anyone who can hear me. I have my Kerry bumper sticker and display it proudly. I work in a public place and am not afraid to voice my opinions whether people like it or not. I am from the Vietnam generation and there were too many of us affected by the folly of that war to let this go unprotested. I email my representative and Senators Stabenow and Levin all the time. I also call Washington and write letters to the editors of the papers. I donate money to MoveOn and Dems, but I still feel there must be more I can do. (I also went to Washington before the war and protested with thousands even though I knew it wouldn't stop the madmen in the White House.)

Keep your spirits up and those of us here at DU will do everything possible to help.
