Democrat Kerry Raises $10 Million Through Internet in 10 Days
March 13 (Bloomberg) -- John Kerry, the presumptive Democratic U.S. presidential nominee, has raised $10 million from donations made on the Internet since he won nine of 10 primary contests on March 2, his campaign said.

The total is more than the $8 million Kerry raised from all donors in February, when he still faced primary challenges from other Democrats. Kerry pledged after the March 2 ``Super Tuesday'' primaries to raise $80 million by the Democratic National Convention, which begins July 26 in Boston.

8. I got an email saying
that it is important to give before the primary what you can. Kerry may not be able to use donations after the convention and he accepts Federal money. I've heard different things about that.

18. Yes, before the convention
The FEC told me that candidates cannot accept donations once they have taken the Federal funds for the main campaign. They usually consider it the main campaign at the convention when the candidate is actually nominated. I don't know if it will be July or September, but we don't have until November to donate.

19. There are two time periods for contributions
During the primary period.
After the primary/convention.

Each has a maximum amount that the candidate is permitted to receive.

When a candidate has been decided many contributers make their contribution before the primary deadline.

In addition, there may be a limit in total contributions to a specific office.
If the maximum is $5,000 the total for all candidates cannot exceed $5,000. If a Democratic candidate for president receives $4,000 the Republican candidate can only receive $1,000. I am not sure if that is a restriction for that office.

23. Federal funds
If the Presidential candidate takes federal funds for the GE, they cannot take individual contributions. Everybody expects both Bush & Kerry to take these funds and for the funds to be about $75 million each. Contribution laws for the GE apply ONLY if the candidate opts out of federal funding for the GE. People shouldn't think they can contribute all the way until November because it's most likely they won't be able to.

22. $.04 * * * *
Clark supporters around the country are including an additional $.04 to their contributions. The $.04 is symbolic of Wes Clark's four stars and his outstanding service to our country.

Glad you asked!

9. That's a million a day - if he could keep that up for 200 days, he will
have as much money as fearless leader.

Wouldn't that be wonderful - to have the money to spend on the campaign and to show the Pubs they are not the only ones to raise money!!

How about the rest of us DU'ers?

I started out giving to Dean, switched to Kerry last month and give $25 every pay (now will be $26 for rockymountaindem) and $10 a pay (now $11) to the DNC and $10 a pay to campaign of Joe Hoeffel in PA for Senator (against probably Specter unless the Repugs here stupid enough to nominate Pat Toomey).

12. Thanks rmpalmer.
I appreciate that. You know, if everybody here on DU just donated $11 per week (10 per member and an extra one to distribute the loss of people under 18 and overseas members) that alone would be $400k per week! I know a lot of us are kinda strapped (economic recovery my ass) but $11 per week sounds reasonable. I know we are comitted enough because we're already spending time at DU! Imagine Kerry getting over a million and a half dollars a month from DU. He'd probably have to acknowledge us in a speech.

:toast: to the donors and Mr. Kerry

36. Gdod to remind people of MoveOn - you can give to them separately.
I did, myself, after sending a donation to Kerry also. MoveOn can extend our reach and give us more buying/punching power against the enemy.

5,000 times as much from a richer man. Kerry needs every bit we can muster. I sent him some earlier this week, too.

25. There should be a $100 DAY
sometime in future. Lets say the day after the convention. On that day, everybody send the Kerry campaign $100 and see if we cannot raise $50 to $100 million..

I think that's doable for me.

$45 thus far to Kerry
$10 to MoveOn
$35 to general democratic stuff.

The library will have to be my source for anti-Bush books, because the money has to go to the fight now, alas.
