The leader of Iran's opposition was tonight reported to have fled Tehran.

Mir Hossein Mousavi, defeated in hotly disputed elections in June, was said to have left the Iranian capital on a day marked by pro-government rallies at which crowds chanted "Death to Mousavi".

7. That's what I've been reading, too, the Times is reporting a pack of lies

Government workers and school children were ordered to attend the pro government rally. The estimate of the crowd size was about 10,000, so they were the only ones there. The government has already been busted for using creative camera angles showing different shots of the same small crowd in an attempt to fool people about its real size.

There were reports last night that have continued today that Masouvi and Karoubi have both been arrested and removed to a small town in the north of the country "for their protection."

This is all stuff I've been reading from multiple sources late last night and this morning.

I really think the deaths on Ashura provided the tipping point for the regime. No one with a brain can support them now.

The difference of opinion is how they got there.

I tend to believe sources other than the government at this point, although everybody has a great deal of incentive to lie.

If I read something from one source, it's bullshit. If I read it from three or more independent sources, it's got a good chance of being the truth.

Mehdi Karroubi's son just talked to the website for the Iranian opposition and said that his father is in Tehran and the government is simply spreading lies and projecting their wishes.

Trust me, if either Karroubi or Mousavi were taken away people would be raising hell and the opposition websites would be all over it.

Unfortunately, their stories don't mesh.

Several reports sighted Mousavi at his nephew's funeral yesterday.

If they did leave town, they didn't go voluntarily. We know that much about their characters.

TEHRAN (Reuters) - Iran's state news agency IRNA said on Wednesday that two leaders of "sedition" in the country have fled to a northern Iranian province, but the opposition said its leaders were still in the capital.

"Two of those who played a major role in igniting tension in Iran following the (June presidential) vote, fled Tehran and went to a northern province because they were scared of people, who demanded their punishment," IRNA reported.

IRNA did not name the two leaders.

Hossein Karoubi, the son of moderate defeated presidential candidate Mehdi Karoubi, said his father and opposition leader Mirhossein Mousavi were still in Tehran.
