Iran Jams Satellites to Block Transmissions by VOA, BBC

Broadcasters in the United States and Britain say the Iranian government has been jamming international satellite transmissions into the country.

Television programs by VOA's Persian News Network and a number of radio broadcasts by U.S.-supported news organizations have been affected by the Iranian jamming. The interference has been aimed at a communications satellite system used by many countries.

Iranian authorities have not responded to inquiries by the Broadcasting Board of Governors, the agency that oversees all U.S. government-supported civilian international broadcasting, including VOA.

However, engineers who regularly monitor satellite communications say Iran apparently is the source of the signal interference, which has blanketed a satellite system known as Hot Bird.

China recently showed its disturbing capability of shooting down satellites,

and there are probably enough hackers to really make a mess of other communications systems.

There is probably no way another country can ever amass the weaponry the USA has,

in a time of need we can triangulate and target sites jamming signals with a host of weapons. From counter attack with our own wild weasel systems to just blowing up a transmitter. Just because they can jam a signal does not mean we have no recourse, only that we choose not to use it.

If they shut off their entire cell grid to prevent communication that is cutting off their nose. Obviously we can turn off comms in a country at will if the threshold is met.

I digress, they are attacking their own people. Eventually those people will tire of their theocratic government deciding what they can hear.

12. The thing you are forgetting is the jamming source is an ACTIVE SIGNAL.

You are instantly visible to sensors from hundreds of km away.

We even make a missile designed to eliminate active signal sources.

There is a counter for every counter.

The jamming signal because a path guiding the missile right to the jamming source. This generation is extremely fast, small, agile, and has smokeless motor. The people manning the jamming source's first indication they had been detected would be when the jamming site erupted in a fireball.

It's definitely affecting more than VOA. Between this and the cell phone/cyber disruptions in Iran...the green movement must feel very much cut off.

I remember that in the summer VOA ran their signal so close to Iranian state media that jamming VOA would essentially jam themselves.

Well, there's always Twitter, which seems to have over 100 new tweets on the subject since I last checked a minute or so ago. And Facebook is definitely working as well. Mousavi's site just uploaded some new videos.

7. Most are not. Even the ones who get reliable info...

...tend to get it from sources inside Iran. Most of the authentic Twitterers from inside Iran have gone silent, sadly.

Still it's possible to hobble together tweets and retweets to get a picture of what is going on, and Twitter is still light years ahead of the MSM, if you're able to filter out all the junk.
