Will we do this in the U.S. or is it still too politically incorrect and we would be blamed for "profiling"?

8. The 9/11 terrorists were all flying domestically.
Sorry, I didn't make myself clear. The 9/11 terrorists flew from Boston, Newark, and Washington, D.C. Would we consider singling out Middle Eastern people traveling domestically? Not just people flying into the U.S.?

2. But NOT Saudi Arabia.....
Now what was the nationality of the 911 hijackers? How about that of the Yemeni-connected former GItmo detainees that supposedly masterminded the Christmas Day bomber attempt? Will someone please remind me?

10. According to the NYT, Saudi Arabia is also on the list.

"Citizens of Cuba, Iran, Sudan and Syria, which are considered “state sponsors of terrorism” as well as citizens from “countries of interest” that consist of Afghanistan, Algeria, Lebanon, Libya, Iraq, Nigeria, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, and Yemen, will also face the special scrutiny, officials said.

For people holding passports from these nations, or taking flights that originated or passed through any of these countries, they will be required to undergo a full-body pat down and have special attention to their carry on bags before they can board a plane to the United States."

3. That means that every businessman or elderly relative
from those countries is going to be subjected to search and questioning? That's going to put a nice dent in travel.

It won't, however, stop terrorism.

5. Exactly... Hell, we don't even do security checks on many of those
who work and service the airports (e.g., concessions, deliveries, etc., etc.)

7. NPR did a piece on it some time back...
the folks that deliver food to the planes and many others do not go through routine screening programs.... Those bottled beverages in the concourse are not screened, yet remain the only "acceptable" fluids one can bring on a plane.... Lots of weaknesses if that reporting is correct.

11. Are the terrorists winning?
If the terrorists intent was to make our government chip away at our freedoms, the terrorists are winning. No more air travel for me, unless I absolutely have to in an emergency.

13. They don't care about our freedoms
Edited on Sun Jan-03-10 09:17 PM by SnakeEyes
Except in that they don't like how we exercise them sometimes in that we can say things they don't like, create art that depict their prophet, and create entertainment and also live/dress/behave in ways that they believe to be immoral and corrupts their people.

What they really care about is killing the infidel.

18. Actually, what they care about
is American policies....like the drones that kill civilians and the theft of resources. The rest of it is just an extra.

Killing the infidel? The US does a lot of that, too. Good goddess on a cracker, woman.

14. I'm hoping that rail travel makes a come back.
If they ever modernize rail travel in this country like they have in Europe I will travel by rail. It is much more relaxing and pleasurable. I've heard that Warren Buffet recently bought up a bunch of rail stock with the express idea of rekindling rail travel. I have great memories of rail travel when I was a kid. I'd love to do it again.

It's not the terrorist that I'm scared of the most, it's the governments reaction.
