43. "BRING EM ON", screeched the impotent AWOL CHIMPANZEE
And "Bring it on", the resistance did.

Six more fine Americans killed today.

God only knows how many Iraqis.

How many more children without a parent?

How many more mothers without a child?

How many more dollars earned for Halliburton?

How much more money in Pres. Dick Cheney's pocket?
(he's the guy who runs Amerika through his witless Chimp sock puppet)

2. Typo in Reuters report: 389 killed should be 589 so far killed...
I gues Reuters doesn't want to shock the Sunday crowd.

A number of places only list the total since * declared "Mission Accomplished" and I figured that's where Reuter's got that number. I go by what my husband sees on the Armed Forces Network.

37. They are using the number who have been killed directly
by the hands of the insurgents (KIA). They are ignoring those who have died in vehicle accidents from trying to avoid enemy fire, those killed by friendly fire, suicides, etc. This is there way to make the Iraqi quagmire seem less deadly than it is.

Don't you just love the media?

Roadside bombs kill six soldiers
Sunday, March 14, 2004 Posted: 3:23 AM EST (0823 GMT)

Iraqis stand outside of a Baghdad shop Saturday after a blast killed the store's owner and wounded two people.

BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- A spate of roadside bombings this weekend has killed six U.S. soldiers, according to the U.S.-led coalition.

Most recently, a roadside bomb -- or improvised explosive device (IED) -- in Baghdad claimed the life of one 1st Infantry Division soldier Sunday morning, according to the Coalition Press Information Center. The bombing happened at 6:30 a.m. (10:30 p.m. Saturday ET), CPIC said.

5. I noticed the death rate fell in recent weeks. . .
which I attributed to the changeover: Those leaving Iraq were playing it close to "home" in the final weeks of their deployment, while the incoming troops weren't yet out on patrol. My guess is, the changeover is about finished, and the new troops are starting to feel their way around now. The Iraqi insurgents, meanwhile, remained where they were, waited, and plotted. . .

9. I think you are right
My husband is one of those on his way home. He has been in Kuwait for the last week. For about 2-3 weeks prior to him leaving Iraq, they didn't go out on patrols and stayed close to home packing their gear, etc.

11. This was the opinion of a lot of Grunts in 'Nam. . .
for the high American casualty rate: We were constantly changing personnel, so those who learned to survive in the jungle were rotated out while green troops replaced them. Meanwhile, Charlie stayed where he'd always been and grew stronger. It's only a theory, of course, the reasoned speculation of those directly involved, and you can give it what credence you may. Me? I expect to see a sharply spiked American fatality count in the coming weeks.

15. Maybe.
I also think we changed tactics to decrease the number of casualties to look good for Bush's campaign. At the expense of more Iraqi civilians getting caught in the cross fire. But the casualty rates are back up, so I'm guessing the resistance is adapting to our change in tactics.

24. I think the numbers
that wax and wane or just from guerrilla forces having to adjust to US moves. It seems that when we have a spike in attacks,US forces respond and the insurgency has to hide/disperse only to reemerge and be just as deadly. I think the numbers reported reflect those killed from hostile action. In the past we used to include all those killed in a hostile theater and didn't differentiate the nature of the death. I don't remember separate lists for those killed in hostile versus non-hostile action in Vietnam. It's part of a propaganda measure to minimize casualties. This site is pretty good at reporting number of casualties and breaking down the numbers (those killed since the start of the war, after May 1, after "bring em on" remark and after the capture of Hussein). I don't know if it is updated for the recent round of attacks.

39. I think they were differentiated but were all included in the totals
A while back, I found my way to a searchable list of names on the Vietnam wall. I looked up a childhood friend of my husband's who'd been killed when he went down one of those Viet Cong tunnels and it collapsed on him. His death was shown as "non-hostile."

The difference is that if that had happened today, he wouldn't even rate a mention.

6. Despicable
It's going to take the next president years to clean this mess up, so long, in fact, that he will likely inherit much of the blame for it. The people must be reminded that this is, and always will be Mr. Bush's war.

13. Every day, I wake up, this morning I got up at 4 am
and now, more dead kids. More every day. and the news gives them just a small blurb, nothing much, ignores whats going on, and does fluff pieces
Somewhere, a mother and father, or husband and wife, will have a car drive into their driveway, and have military personnel come to their door. They will knock on the door and say "Ma'am, Sir, we are sorry to inform you that your son/daughter has died in battle".
If that happens to me, I will spit in their faces I will scream , I will bring my own camera to the Dover AF base and the whole world will see what they have done to a soldier. There is no way in hell I will let the Bush admin murder my son and get away with it
But some family, somewhere, is going to get that news today. Their lives will be ruined forever, forever. and somewhere wealthy corporate men and politicians sleep and dont care who dies, and will check their bank accounts in the morning to see if this or that soldiers horrific death made them more money.

bring the troops home now.

42. And here in today's paper....
nothing but "wonderful" upbeat news about how the Middle East is just improving on a daily basis because of *'s policies. Well, they also have a few articles about how wonderful the economy is too. And they had a blurb about how the killing of US soldiers is way down. If I didn't read DU every day I'd think there was a veritable rainbow and yellow brick road to follow in Iraq.

Mari - keep voicing your truth loud and clear! Write editorials to the Free Press and Detroit News and give them hell. We're all with you.

..using our soldiers in an ill-conceived invasion that had very little to do with terrorism and was inititated on false claims, not equipping them properly, reducing their benefits and medical coverage, while extending their tour.

38. Total 564
15 in March 2004. let's also not forget the deaths of our "allies" who got roped into this mess: 59 British soldiers have also died along with 42 others bring the total to 665.

http://lunaville.org/warcasualties/Summary.aspx

How many Iraqi civilians have we also murdered but who we don't bother to think about?
March 17, the day this glorious country brought on operation "shock and awe" should be remembered as our day of shame.

40. How many lives have been lost?????
How many Iraqi civilians....men, women, children, through air attacks, cross fire, mistaken identity?????

How many have committed suicide?????

How many military in accidents??????

How many military have died during medical transportation to Germany, etc.?????

How many civilian support (contractor's, consultant's advisor's, etc.)??????

500, 600, 1,000 ........thousands?????

It amazes me that the chicken hawks and defenders of this Administration who claim to be the only true patriots and Christians, are unwilling to either stand-up and enlist to actually fight themselves in this bloody war or to honestly face the death and destruction that is occurring.
