Yemen opposes any US troops in terror fight
Source: Associated Press

SAN'A, Yemen – Yemen's foreign minister said Wednesday that his country opposes any direct intervention by U.S. or other foreign troops in the fight against al-Qaida.

Foreign Minister Abu Bakr al-Qirbi told The Associated Press in an interview that "there is a lot of sensitivity about foreign troops coming to Yemeni territory."

His comments came as Yemeni security forces launched a manhunt for the suspected leader of an al-Qaida cell believed to be behind a threatened attack that forced the closure this week of the U.S. and British embassies in San'a.

1. Of course they don't... that won't stop the US Empire, though
because Pax Americana is paramount.

6. There aren't any US soldiers in Yemen
They Yemenis have always been pretty touchy...sometimes we get overflight permission, sometimes we don't. I remember a C-5 was transiting the Gulf of Aden (where Somali and Yemeni sovereign airspace touches) and the Yemeni's were threatening to shoot down the airplane and intercepted it with their old fighters...the C-5 crew quoted an international law stating they were legal, which is what saved them from becoming an international incident...

We don't have any US soldiers there now, nor will we in the future short of an invasion...and I don't see that happening either.

7. uh, there are drones, for sure
and most probably special ops, if there are drones.

But the drones constitute a presence, albeit thinly-veiled by technology.

2. Gee, Wonder Why?

Under the last administration, at least, there was a significant danger that you could have houseguests who suddenly decided to stay for quite the extended period.

4. "opposes any - direct - intervention "
Which isn't to say US troops aren't on Yemeni soil - because they are.

5. Good. The last thing we need to do is occupy another middle east country
This war against racism in our military has to stop somewhere.
