Walgreens, Genpact ink 10-year outsourcing deal

NEW DELHI: US' largest drugstore chain Walgreens on Thursday announced a 10-year outsourcing deal with India’s BPO provider Genpact.

As part of the contract, Walgreens will shift its accounting processes and jobs to Genpact, a move that will involve transfer of at least 500 jobs.

This is Genpact’s fourth-large deal in past three months, signaling a gradual bounce back in the global BPO business market.

“We are definitely seeing a comeback with lot many deals in the pipeline of large value. This is also a large contract considering the number of people involved. We will also keep many jobs onshore and still be able to maintain margins,” Genpact president and CEO Pramod Bhasin told ET. He denied to disclose the exact size of the deal, citing non-disclosure agreement.

16. I understand you don't need a membership for the Costco Pharmacy Service - anyone?

you just need to check in with member services that you are there to use their pharmacy (and you are also allowed to buy liquor I understand in many instances state laws prevent liquor from being purchased with requirements for membership - you should check your location)

And please don't wash down your pharmaceuticals with your Costco liquor!

The jobs they can't outsource would be managing and working in the stores. There are so many of these stores, that they still employ many people, so in theory those wanting to boycott want those more numerous people to lose their jobs too, as punishment to the company for moving 500 out.

And when companies from abroad come to the U.S. and hire 500 people, it never gets noticed.

when a company offshores jobs, and they only have a presence in the US, it doesn't sit too well with the citizens of this country, looking at a national unemployment rate of >10%. The company is labeled right up there with Walmart and their business practices that have driven manufacturing completely out of the United States. I've seen you on other threads beating the drum that there are no qualified people to fill these positions and therefore we need to bring in more H-1b visa workers... As you can plainly see in this instance, this is purely a cost-savings plan to increase profits. But i'm sure you will find a way to twist this to suit your goals.

Regardless of me (why make it personal) there are still managers and store employees, so in theory you're taking the position of having them lose their jobs to punish the company.

H-1bs have nothing to do with outsourcing. H-1bs at least are here. So outsourcing is worse.

And you do not answer the point of making no acknowledgment when foreign companies come here.

35. The goal of a boycott is to raise awareness

The only way to make a company understand that they are doing something wrong is to deny them their profits. By boycotting Walgreens now, the result is to remove any profit margins they expected to gain by offshoring these 500 jobs. This also sends a message to other companies that are toying with the idea of sending local jobs overseas.

If Walgreens ends up letting people go and closing stores... other chains would happily take over and hire the people, with experience. Hell, maybe it will allow for a family-owned corner pharmacy to open... remember when you could actually get knowledgeable service!?!? Same applies to hardware stores of yesterdays past.

The company is not going to bankrupt over an active boycott, they would simply drop the contract and make a public appeal. Of course they would spin it in a way to make them out to be the model company that cares about their neighbors! Pffft... and the public is gullible enough to buy into it. End result, less jobs lost than the current 500 shipped away.

On your other quest for an answer to foreign companies setting up shop here in the US, and hiring hundreds of locals to do the work for them... Hummm, haven't seen that happen in years. Care to point out a few??? I'd happily applaud their venture, if I could find one.

I searched their career opportunities for openings and they have only 4 full-time positions offered to the entire USA.

Moventas is also building out several US locations (they're in wind, as well), but they also don't online job listings very well... wind is up, healthcare is up, etc. Basically, industries where the cost of transporting the goods or services is prohibitive are still chugging along, and international players are expanding into the US where they can compete (remember the japanese car companies moving in?)

yeah, it seems that the only way to keep a job on shore is to put up regulations in order to make incentives unavailable elsewhere. Yet there are those on this board that still believe that sending manufacturing jobs off to countries that do not oversee the well being of the workers health and safety, is just good competition for the industry and better news for the stockholders.

As I stated before... I applaud the foreign companies for setting up shop here in the US, because it is the only way to receive federal incentives. Hopefully the jobs are not all filled by H1 and L1 visa holders, exclusively. That is not covered under the regulations of the bill.

41. Talked to my sister-in-law who works in Walgreen's corporate accounting office.

She told me that she will be told if she's losing her job in March. At that time, those being cut loose will be offered the chance to stick around just long enough to get the overseas employees trained up, then it's "Adios"!
Phuque Walgreen's!!! They'll be losing a minimum of $300.00 from me every month. I know that's peanuts to them, but if a half million people did the same, it would suck to be Walgreen's.

I am the former Indian Hills Theater Preservation Society Chairman. Walgreens was involved with a deal that was never made public. Google the theater. You will find lots of dirt. Walgreens dirt was never made public. Marta and I stopped taking our business there years ago.
