Ohio Terror Database (very suspicious)
http://www.onnnews.com/story.php?record=29377

I can't find this story in the on-line Columbus Dispatch. There
are several items in this story that alarm me. Let me know your thoughts.

March 14, 2004
A newspaper says the state Bureau of Motor
Vehicles sold driving records of Ohioans for about $50,000 to the company developing a multistate crime database program.

The program, called Matrix, lets states share information with one another and cross-reference the data with up to 20-billion records in databases held by a Florida company called Seisint.

Bureau spokeswoman Julie Hinds confirmed the sale to the Columbus Dispatch. Hinds said Seisint signed an agreement not to misuse the information.

The American Civil Liberties Union has complained the information could be used by investigators to compile dossiers on people who haven't been suspected of crimes.

a little more........

2. ONLY $50 GRAND?
Fuck, this state's so damn broke, and they're going to sell us out for a pittance like that? If they're gonna screw us so thoroughly over that way, at least they could cash in.

24. So did I...
This is interesting...

"MATRIX was developed by Hank Asher, a wealthy data entrepreneur and founder of Seisint. According to news reports, Asher called Florida police right after the attacks (9-11), claiming he could pinpoint the hijackers and others who might pose a risk of terrorist activity.
He offered to make this powerful law enforcement database available quickly, for free.

Asher, reportedly a former government informant involved with drug smuggling, resigned from Seisint at the end of August following a series of critical newspaper reports - reports that also reminded Florida residents that it was Asher's former company, Database Technologies, that administered the contract that stripped thousands of African Americans from the Florida voter rolls before the 2000 election, erroneously contending that they were felons."

Well it looks like data on Ohio drivers is in good hands...

4. Somehow, someway
Edited on Sun Mar-14-04 04:40 PM by mtnester
This will make it into the hands of Diebold, or somehow used in that way, I can sense it like a hot burner near my hand.

Does anyone know if I have the legalities on my side to demand a paper ballot in Ohio rather than electronic Diebold steal my vote machines?

Florida/Ohio/Florida/Ohio . . . dejavu

I hope the Kerry campaign is on top of this.

9. Become a poll worker
You may vote by absentee ballot if:

* You will be absent from the county on election day
* You are 62 years of age or older
* You or a family member will be hospitalized on election day
* You have a personal illness or physical disability
* You are an election official or board of elections employee
* You cannot vote on election day because of a religious belief
* You will be in jail for a misdemeanor or awaiting trial
* You are a full-time fire fighter, peace officer or full-time provider of emergency medical services
* You are on active duty in the state with the organized militia

Take the poll worker training in your county. You will vote absentee even if you are a substitute. Don't got to the court house to vote. Make them mail you a ballot.

5. ...
"Hinds said Seisint signed an agreement not to misuse the information." What a joke! How do they define "misuse"?

I'm basically speechless about this. Every day it's a new outrage. And most Americans just don't care.

7. So, they
"signed an agreement promising not to misuse the information?"

Well, hell, golly geez, that makes this Ohioan feel ever soooooooo much better about the whole thing! I mean, since they promised not to misuse the information, we can certainly trust them totally on that one, can't we? CAN'T WE?.......Oh, never mind!

The Matrix.....they're joking, right?

who paid for this? who's subcontracting the purchase? where is the information going to go......goshdamn, forgive me but I've become cynical about this kind of s***, politics and control over information.

i will be shocked, shocked, if this thing starts turning up in other critical election states...

10. Found this with a quick search...
http://www.disinfopedia.org/wiki.phtml?title=Seisint%2C_Inc.

good background on who these schmucks are... in short, they are Florida GOP backers, ex=drug smugglers, con men, fixers, hustlers, and such. The usual cast of characters for a CIA front.

14. I heard of this before....
they do call it the Matrix, but I think Utah and Georgia wised up and dropped out. If I understood what I remember about it, the states provide all the raw data from state records, but then they (the states) have to pay a fee eventually to maintain access.

11. Hmm. Four of the seven states are "battleground states"
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/4021501/

ACLU warns of database’s privacy threat

Matrix lets states share criminal, prison and vehicle information with each other and cross-reference it with up to 20 billion records in databases held by Seisint Inc. The Seisint records include people’s property, boats and Internet domains, their address history, utility connections, bankruptcies, civil court history, liens, voter registration and business filings.

For now the project involves Connecticut, Florida, Michigan, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Utah, though not all those states are using the system yet. In all, about 450 law enforcement agents can access Matrix, Jester said.

Of course, that doesn't necessarily mean anything...
