Hoeven ends suspense, enters Senate race
Source: The Bismarck Tribune

After weeks of speculation, Gov. John Hoeven told Republicans what they wanted to hear: he’s running for the Senate.

Hoeven made his announcement in front of a crowd of Republican supporters and politicians and behind a campaign sign reading Hoeven for U.S. Senate.

The packed crowd at the Doublewood Inn in Bismarck chanted “bring it on, John,” as he prepared to enter a race gaining more national attention after Sen. Byron Dorgan’s decision not to seek re-election.

Hoeven, America’s longest-serving governor, touted his successes in office, pointing to low unemployment and lower taxes, saying the same approaches that have worked in North Dakota should be brought to Washington.

10. Your Senator has one vote just like Dorgan.
And one ND farmer produces more food than all the people you see from your roof

2. Ed Schultz had a female politician, 29 yo on his show today.
who was thinking of running as a Dem... As I listened to her, all I could think of was that I pray there is another DEM candidate more qualified. She is very young and while probably not stupid-- definitely not ready for prime time, especially against a seasoned REPUG opponent.

Anyone know who else might be thinking of running?

5. Heidi Heitkamp, maybe?
Hoeven seems to be quite popular though.

It looks like ND could be tough political territory for the Dems during the elections.

8. I'd sure vote for Ed Shultz in a heartbeat, but I guess in lives in NY or NJ now.
Then again, maybe he does more good where he is?

Anyway, I like him a lot.

I agree that a novice may not be competition for a popular Governor.

I hope some competent, likeable stealth Progressive steps up.

7. Ed Schultz should run.
He would have a good chance of getting elected. He could win people's hearts and minds. I don't think any Republican would know the facts or talk with as much straight common sense as Ed Schultz. The Democrats should run some polls regarding how people would react to the fact that, although he has always thought of North Dakota as his home, he has lived out of the state for a while. He would do a great job for the people of North Dakota. He could drive hard bargains. He is a big guy with a lot of presence, a good sense of humor. I think he could be elected. Good chance of it. I'd say he would be a shoo in, but I don't know the Republican candidate.

9. Shultz is my favorite show host, but I live in Massachusetts.

:toast:

You can find his photo in the diction under "likeable," "down to earth" and "fan of both guns and single payer"

I have never held a gun and hope I never do, but I think someone like Shultz could win over a lot of people who would not warm up to someone like Olbermann though I like Olbermann, too).

11. Great idea. Get some real dialogue on issues, and retain the seat.

Someone else should run in the GOP primary too.
